If I Never Met You
Reviews

This was fine. I don't think anything about it was mind-blowingly good or blood boiling bad. Very middle of the road.

I loved Laurie and Jamie together. This was a fun and emotional journey, everything you would expect from a proper British romcom...

I never read anything from Mhairi McFarlene before. This is actually my first try and not that I'm not satisfied but you know it was okay for me. Jamie turned back and slithered down the wall. “Permission to cry, Laura?” “Laurie!” It was nice to read something about black girl other than only white girl. Overall I give it a 4 Stars.

I love mhairi’s writing! maybe a tad too long but super cute and well developed characters

3.75/5

This might be more of a 3.5–due solely to the ending feeling both rushed and drawn out?—but for two things: kept my attention during a pandemic and, more importantly, FAKE DATING A N D there was, at one point, only one bed. What a great one-two trope sucker punch.

A slowburn fake dating relationship between grounded yet fun adult characters? This book is exactly the romance I’ve been craving. It was cute but it gave the characters enough backstory that it didn’t feel too fluffy or unrealistic. It also had Marian Keyes vibes which I adore. Considering how PG13 most of their relationship was, you could definitely feel the chemistry between Laurie and Jamie. I read this book in one night and I’ve been struggling with finding a good romance book so my feelings might be a little distorted but I really liked it.

I had a good time reading this, read it in a day. Kept me interested and really like our main characters. It's not a new favourite but still enjoyed it. I just didn't connect to the romance like I would have wanted to and I didnt love the ending. I think the book could have been sorter. Check out the trigger warnings before you read this one. All in fun and enjoyable

It was a fun read. Nothing that will stick in my head for years but I felt good while reading. Of course, the story is predictable, but that's the point of "easy-read-feel-good-rom-com novels" isn't it?

I honestly just didn't feel the chemistry between them. I liked Hattie and Emily better and wish we could have an Emily book.

This is my third Mhairi McFarlane book and she is fast becoming one of my favourite romance authors. She writes real stories that feature pain and heartache. Her characters have rounded out back stories which helps you understand them more. They make you feel emotional and so happy at the end. I just love them. And I think this was my favourite so far. And me being fickle with my fictional boyfriends, I have fallen in love with Jamie Carter.

Ah wow so I have a lot of thoughts with this one. Detailed review to come.

Enjoyed it as a rom com. Loved the main character and her journey. Didn’t stand out to me in any important ways but not a bad read.

This book was a slow burn for me. A very, very slow burn. The overall plot of the book is something I am very much familiar with, but this style of writing took me a while to process. I can only categorize it as inner noise. You will get a lot of inner thoughts from the female lead, I just wish it could have balanced out to the male lead as well. It has a great underlying message about the people you meet in your life. That was one of the highlights and my favorite takeaway. Aside from the detailed thoughts, I had very strong feelings about the ending of this book and not necessarily in a good day. No spoilers, but I felt like once I was finally settled with the story literally the last two pages just made me want to toss my kindle. Overall a very sweet, very fun, lighthearted read to pass the time!

Fun, relatable with the perfect amount of fluff and angst - a perfect Sunday book

The kind of romance novel with a world you just want to live in. So enjoyable, smart and fun.

I really enjoyed the audiobook

I didn’t know it was a British book, so I was a bit surprised. I also didn’t know this was a clean romance so I’m a bit disappointed but it’s alright. The begging was really slow and sorry but boring. Concentrating was harder for me since it was British writing. Overall a good book but there are better options out there ❤️

Initially, I wasn't drawn by the writing style, but once I got used to it I enjoyed this a lot!

4.5/5 stars

I was disappointed with this book, the concept sounded really interesting and after reading the Hating Game I expected it to be similar. However, I found this book to be meh, I didn't care for the romance or the characters.

Unfortunately I am against the grain with this book and just didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. I did listen to it on audio so I wonder if I would've enjoyed it more as a physical read??? Outside of that though I just didn't connect with the characters or feel their love growing. It seemed as though all of a sudden it was there. It's also based around lawyers which isn't probably my fave, so that probably didn't help my feelings around this one. Spoilers.. I found that the end was very insta love in a not great way and insta outta love real quick too. Let me explain.... There is an inevitable break up at the catalyst which is extremely common in romance books, but Laurie seems as though she doesn't really care that it happened by the next day. Then, she's chasing him down at a bus station and asking him to marry her the next second. I just felt like the feelings for me just weren't in this one.
