Detective David Gray is investigating a murder when, without warning, he wakes up in the "in-between", a place where the people who have slipped between the cracks of society walk unseen among the living. He discovers he is there because horrific creatures known as The Men have stolen his soul and he has one year to retrieve it or join their ranks forever.
