Wicked

Wicked A Wicked Trilogy #1

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans. Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart. Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her. But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

Wicked is my first time reading Jennifer L. Armentrout and I see the reason she’s a favourite of readers of fantasy. With a combination of Armentrout’s riveting writing and Amy Landon’s impeccable narration, I was swiftly drawn into a world which was fun, sexy and suspenseful. A world in which Faes pose a danger to humans and one where the members of a special organization called the Order, hunts and kill them. Wicked, the first book in the Wicked Trilogy, takes readers on a journey designed to entertain and captivate. A journey filled with suspense, adventure and romance. Ivy Morgan attends college by day and hunts Faes by night. A dangerous job, which places her at risk of a short life span. Despite the risk, she’s motivated to carry out the mandate of The Order to destroy the Faes. A motivation fueled by a past tragedy, which led to her avoiding close relationships. Ren Owens, a swoon worthy, flirtatious, but dangerous and intense alpha male who works for a special brand of the Order. He came to New Orleans for a special and dangerous assignment. He can’t afford distractions in any form, but he never counted on someone like Ivy. Several encounters with the fiery red-headed beauty have him completely smitten, Ivy, on the other attempts to fight her attraction by staying far away as possible. Unfortunately, her boss requested they worked as a team when the danger levels in the city intensified. Soon, Ivy and Ren will find themselves immersed in a situation where secrets abound, danger lurks, and romance blossoms. Wicked features awesome characters, with my favourite being Tink, the brownie Ivy rescued. There is never a dull moment whenever he’s around. He will have you cracking up with his hilarious statements. I loved how he had Ivy’s back, even though it was clear he knew more than he was letting on. The banter between Tink and Ivy will crack you up, but what will have you rolling with laughter is his interactions with Ren. I enjoyed the writing and the pacing. The story presented no surprises, as I guessed several things before their revelation. The story ends on a cliffhanger, which left me wanting more. Fortunately, the second book is sitting nicely on my kindle. Amy Landon did an impeccable job with the narration, which brought the story to another level. She’s got mad skills. Her tone and portrayal of the characters made for an easy listen. How she does it, I have no clue, but her voice varied for each character. The voices used matched each character perfectly. Simply fantastic. Fans of urban fantasy, this is a great book to add to your reading list. I am looking forward to reading her other works. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I am continually amazed by Jennifer L. Armentrout and her abilities to come up with such amazing worlds. I was really excited to start reading this series as I got an eARC of The King (Attach Review Here) a novella to this world and I thought it was only fair for me to read all of the other books first. I am 100% amazed by this story. This is my first ever Fae related read and I think I’m hooked. I forget how much I love paranormal reads, especially ones by JLA. They are so fascinating to me and I get lost in the world they are building for us. Even though this story is based in New Orleans, Louisiana. There are still magical and mystical things about a world we as the reader know little about. Magical realism? Uhm, yes, please. Sign me up and strap me in. I cannot get enough. This is why I read. For books written like this. For the authors who write like this. So that I can go to a place I’ve never been before and come up with a picture of it in my head with the description that the author gives. Ivy Morgan wants so much more than just life in the Order. She is a fiery redhead with tons of sass, a total bad a**, but yet so vulnerable. She has a great heart and might be one of my favorite characters of the year. Ren Owens, tall dark and handsome. I am still unsure how I feel about Ren. I do like him don't get me wrong, but he comes on too possessive, strong, and assertive which I usually love, but with him, it somewhat annoyed me. I did, however, enjoy his determination with Ivy. Throughout the entire book, he never gives up on trying to win her over. Tink. I cannot forget about Tink. He is hands down my favorite character!! He is hilarious and so enjoyable and he does it with ease. He doesn't even need to try and be funny, he just is. Overall I think that the book had a great pace to it. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters no matter how big or small their roll in the book. Did I think that some parts were drawn out a little too long? Sure. But it was helpful for me because I understood what was going on. My one and only issue was that I thought it was really predictable. I knew about 4 or 5 chapters in what was going to happen. It was awesome and epic, but also sweet and sexy. Such a great combination and I can't wait to finish this review so I can start reading book two, Torn. The cliffhanger literally had me jumping in my seat. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this story. Solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star read!

The best part of this book was Tink, the brownie. The plot is very predictable, but is still satisfying. I don't know what else to say about this.

Finally finished this one. I’ve been struggling to read at home and that’s why it’s taken so long but I forced myself to finish this amazing book. I love reading this story obviously a 10/10 5 star read! Ivy is a fae hunter and that is a different read for me. Reading her story about being a fae hunter and trying to have some normalcy, battling loss and moving on from it, and just trying to survive the fae was completely different than my normal fae loving reads and i love it.

If you're expecting a series as amazing as her FBAA series, this isn't it. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. I laughed out loud a few times and it was a pretty fun read.

Okay… I actually kind of enjoyed this. I’m really surprised because I spent a lot of time rolling my eyes at how downright cringey a lot of the dialogue was. Also it was predictable. I was less than 50% in when I worked out what was going to happen though there was some fun to be had in not having to think much about what I was reading. It was also nice to see an male lead see a male lead who actively chased the female lead in a way that wasn’t creepy. Although Ivy didn’t need to tell us at least four times that Ren ‘didn’t have an ounce of fat on his body’ she could have told us all how fit he was in so many other ways. Synonyms exist for a reason. My other gripe was that the sex scenes weren’t that good in my opinion and I would have much preferred a fade to black situation, but it’s new adult fiction so I endured. I’ve read much worse in my time. The above review makes me seem really critical about this book, but at the end of the day it was a new take on the fae I’ve never come across with a female lead who wasn’t overly annoying. I’ll probably be picking up the next book in the series in the next couple of days to get another dose of mindless enjoyment.

Video review coming soon! Update: No video review is coming. From what I remember, I enjoyed this book quite a lot. It was an interesting world, however, the reason for only 4 stars instead of 5 was this book had a bit of cheesiness to it. While, it was not as bad as some novels, it still was obvious enough for me to knock off an entire star.

I'm so glad that I decided to do a reread of Wicked. It reminded me how much I really love this story and the characters. Tink will always be my favorite though. Rereading is also a lot of fun, because I saw things this time around that I didn't see the first time. I'll be doing a reread of the rest of this trilogy soon!

“I'm a lot of things, but today I'm your fucking saving grace.” I was lucky enough to receive Wicked in a book exchange I did from my lovely friend Dani. We all know I love a good book about fae, and being a Jennifer L Armentrout fan, I could not wait to dive into this paranormal, new adult romance. I absolutely loved Wicked. Like many of JLAs novels set somewhat in the real world, I found the writing really fresh and hooking. I adored the characters - especially Tink - I want a Tink in my life! I did find the pacing a little slow at the start, but I quickly became absolutely hooked by the plot and could not put this book down! I also loved the allusions to other popular novels, like Harry Potter and Twilight, I found it so fun! And let me tell you, because I know you all want to know, the spice was *chefs kiss*! It was just the right amount of spice and so well written with the perfect dose of sexual tension. Someone tell me where I can find a Ren! And the ending! Ahhhh. I wish I owned the rest of the series because what a cliffhanger! I need to know more!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Not nearly as good as all of her other books. Jennifer Armentrout is my absolute favorite author, but this series is not nearly as good as the rest of her books. I will keep reading the series and I plan to watch the movie that was just adapted. Ren was very quirky as a character. I couldn't figure him out. He was both this badass sexy guy who would do and say crazy sexual things, but he was also super soft and sweet at heart. It was a huge contradiction that I had a hard time reconciling. Ivy on the otherhand was a really predictable character. I also called every twist. The book just lacked that wow factor that her other books have. I'm hoping that the series gets better though.

“What I know is there is no guarantee of tomorrow. There is no promise there will be another day or week for us. When you want something, you go for it.” Stars: 5/5 Characters: 4/5 (Best character is Tink) Setting: 4/5 Plot: 4/5 Pros: Interesting world, fast paced, addictive Cons: A bit repetitive, can guess what’s going to happen, same old story. Ivy Morgan is the protagonist, she is a red headed fae hunter, her love interest is Ren Owens a member of The Elite. They have to work together against the ancients and their plan to open the gateways to the otherworld, while they slowly fall in love with each other. Ends in cliffhanger. I really liked this story, it has great characters and the world is fun. I got deeply immersed into the storyline and the characters. Sometimes it’s predictable and its not an original story, you probably have read similar things to this plot.

After picking up the From Blood and Ash series earlier this and quickly falling head over heels in love with the characters and world, I was both hesitant and excited to explore another book from JLA. Excited, since I already knew she was capable of writing incredibly well developed, imperfect characters and building a compelling plot around them. Hesitant for two reasons, one being that I was concerned that my expectations would be too high and her earlier work might not compare to FBAA. The latter reason I was concerned about was that at times, I definitely found the world building clunky at times and the writing was hard to love at times. I’m glad I pushed past these concerns and picked up Wicked because I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s urban fantasy, while I tend to prefer high fantasy, and introduces us to Ivy, a member of a historical Order fated to protect the world from Fae. For the first 30% or so of the book I thought it showed promise but didn’t feel too invested yet, but the pace of the book most definitely picked up in the second half and I found myself growing quite attached to both our MCs. There was more romance than I was expecting, but it didn’t overshadow the plot for me. Overall, I rated this book 4 stars and will definitely be continuing to read the rest of the series as well as explore some of JLA’s other worlds!

Find this review and more at kimberlyfaye reads . Confession: I've never been a big fan of fae books. I've read a few and they were good, but there was always something missing for me. Whatever that unidentified "something" was, Jen found it. Because, let me tell you, I freaking loved this book. Like, one of my favorites of the year LOVED it. I shouldn't be surprised. Jen is brilliant and, I mean, she made me fall in love with an alien. It's only natural she would redefine fae for me, too. As I want to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, I'm going to keep this review pretty short. I loved the characters. Ivy was smart, independent and driven. She was easy to like. Ren was super swoony in that way that Jen's men typically are. The banter between them was great and brought back fond memories of Kat and Daemon. It was all "I hate you... I hate you... I want you" and I was completely hooked. As wonderful as Ivy and Ren were, Tink stole the whole damn show. I laughed so hard at some of his scenes. From Lucky Charms to Braveheart to Troll Dolls, I just flipping adored Tink. So will you. I've always found New Orleans interesting, but Wicked's New Orleans is downright fascinating. It was well-built and, while it retained so many details of "real world" NoLa (hello, Cafe Du Monde's beignets!) there was no denying something paranormal was going on there. Jen builds great worlds within the ones we already know so well. There was loads of action and twists and turns and I ended the book with my jaw, literally, hanging wide open. Add to all this the sexual tension (or, you know, loads of it) and a couple smokin' hot scenes and I was completely hooked. Maybe it was the setting, maybe it was the characters, maybe it was Jen's amazing writing with her trademark wit, heart and (oh-my-gosh-YES) sexiness, but Wicked blew me away. (In all honesty, it was this perfect combination of awesome that made me love it so much.) When it ended, I wanted to cry because it was over... and because I was freaking out over the cliffhanger. Need. More. Now. Torn can't get her soon enough. What a great start to a new series! Jen's done it again, you guys. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
