The People on Second Street

In 1949 Jenny Moore, her husband Father Paul Moore, Father Kim Myers and Bob Pegram started their work at Grace Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. This quartet envisioned the Episcopal Church as an agent of social change, protesting inner city housing conditions and racial discrimination. Jenny Moore's 1968 memoir of the nine years her family spent in Jersey City is an unsentimental and moving reflection of the contradictions of love, privilege, and commitment.
