Liked this volume a lot better than the first, actually.

"Kate Kristopher, once the most famous explorer of an Earth far more fantastic than the one we know, is forced to return to the adventurous life she left behind when a family secret threatens to destroy everything she spent her life protecting.

Too much chaos for me. If you're throwing a lot of info at the reader before explaining anything (very on-trend), you gotta edit out extraneous detail. This comic reads like "anything I've ever wanted to write, shoved into one series".

I do like the cat clock, though. He is cute and charmingly optimistic/out of it.

Kate knows everything! We don't! This story arc that sheds light on the past that Kate and company tried to leave behind. Clues from that past contains answers for where they go next. All roads converge. Not everyone survives the trip. Collects SHUTTER #18-22.

I just... what? This series continues to have cool art, but make absolutely no sense.

Kate Kristopher was a globally renowned explorer on an Earth far more fantastic than our own. Then she wasn't. In our third volume, Kate's memory has been wiped by the organization manipulating her entire life. Those she hold close all walk to their execution. All roads lead to Leonis. I like the art, and I like the premise, but after volume 1, I have no idea what is going on.

I received a free digital copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had read the first 4 issues when they first came out and I was so confused and lost that I gave up. But when I got the digital copy for the first volume that put the first 6 together, I thought I would try it again, in hopes that I had missed something. Unfortunately, I don't think I will continue reading after this.

The story is all over the place. So many characters are introduced all at once before we even have a chance to get to know the main character, Kate Kristopher. If you're not invested in the heroine, what's the point?

The pacing is all off. Kate is captured, encapsulated in a purple stone, broken free, blown up, then on the run from people she thought she could trust. In between, there are flashbacks. It's one thing to have fast paced action. This is like hitting the fast forward button through essential parts of the story, leaving the reader confused.

Not to mention, the artwork seemed all over the place. Some characters look cartoonish, others are drawn harsher, more angles and dark lines. It added to the unevenness.

To end on a positive note, there are some amazing creatures and I loved the idea that Kate's father took her on his explorations from an early age. He took her to the moon! And it turns out, he may not have been the man she thought he was. It's an intriguing storyline that forces her back into the life she left behind.

I like this series. It has sooo much potential and sometimes the result is 100% awesome! But in this 3rd book I still feel like not much has happened. Maybe because what happens is a bit vague sometimes, we still don't know much of what is going on or why it's going on. And sometimes I just get confused. There were a couple of times that I had to go back to make sure I didn't skip any pages cause I didn't know how we got where we were. I want to continue because I want to know more about this, but at the same time, I'm a bit afraid that I still won't get much in the 4th book.
