Kalamazoo Gals A Story of Extraordinary Women & Gibson's "Banner" Guitars of WWII
After finding a 1940s photograph of a group of women in front of the Gibson Guitar Factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, author John Thomas discovers that they built guitars for the company during World War II, a fact denied by the company for years. After locating some of these women, he interviews them to preserve their stories for posterity,interweaving his narrative with examples of "Banner" guitars and the people who played them. In the process the reader learns about the times and conditions during the war years, and learns the details of these highly-valued guitars.
