Man, I love Jonesy. I was in a sad comic book funk where I was reading a bunch of serious, sad stuff. I told my friend I needed a reprieve and they got a faraway look in their eyes, tapped their fingers together and whispered, "Do you know Jonesy?" I did not, but now I do. Jonesy is a Latina teen with an adorable ferret, a gig at her dad's donut shop, a weekly zine she produces, and SECRET LOVE POWERS. Jonesy's SECRET LOVE POWERS cause all sorts of silly problems when they result in outcomes she didn't expect. She also uses them for non-malicious evil, my favorite time being when a bunch of old ladies are compelled to fall in love with butt dancing around her father on a date ("how cute" says the date "Madam! Please stop! I beg you" says dad) The art is amazing. While I read it, I kept taking pictures of panels and sending them to friends. I love the colors, the expressions, the styles (I WANT YOUR WARDROBE, JONESY). The written language of the book is breezy, slangy, and full of whimsy. Also a ton of queer representation and almost the entire cast are POC. God, just go read Jonesy. And send me your favorite panels when you do.
This issues was actually super cute! I preferred it a whole lot more than #9, even though essentially this was just a continuation of what #9 set up. Jonesy protests and campaigns for the ferret rescue center to be re-opened in Shepard City, and she accomplishes it! I thought she actually made some really adult decisions in this issue. Jonesy has always been a comic that's fun and cute, but definitely a little bit juvenile. This time though, she decides to give up a good thing in order to do the right thing and repair her friendships with Susan and Farid and everyone in Plymouth, which was actually really mature of her. I'm looking forward to seeing how she puts her signature quirky spin on fixing everything wrong in Plymouth.
