The story telling was very engrossing, and the story itself flowed so well that I didn't want to put it down.

The end had a very strong crescendo and ended on a huge cliff hanger, but it was so worth it!

Meine Meinung: Ich würde von mir behaupten, dass ich einer der größten Fans der Göttlich-Trilogie von Josephine Angelini bin. Ich habe sie geliebt und verschlungen, habe getrauert, als die Reihe vorbei war und mich umso mehr gefreut, als ich von Everflame erfahren habe. Endlich eine neue Trilogie! Ich musste das Buch sofort haben und dann hat es doch leider ein ganzes Jahr gedauert, bis ich es zusammen mit Kücki begonnen habe. Ich habe sehr lange für das Buch gebraucht. Oder besser gesagt für die erste Hälfte des Buches. 
Anfangs kam ich sehr gut in die Geschichte. Nach Lilys mehr oder weniger schlimmen Zwischenfällen in Salem habe ich sie sofort ganz fest in mein Herz geschlossen und die ganze Sache hat mich unglaublich neugierig auf den Rest des Buches gemacht. Ich wollte mehr von ihren Allergien wissen, erfahren, wie es mit ihr und Tristan weitergeht und habe mir schon ausgemalt, wie Lily von dem anderen Salem erfährt und schließlich dorthin gerät. Aber kaum hatte ich mich an den Gedanken gewöhnt, wurde alles über den Haufen geschmissen und Lily findet sich schon sehr früh in dem Salem des Paralleluniversums wieder. Zu dieser Reise hat sie ihrer fiesen Doppelgängerin Lillian das okay gegeben und das hat mich sehr enttäuscht. Ich schien mich in Lily getäuscht zu haben denn der Gedanke, dass sie dumm und naiv einfach vor ihren Problemen wegläuft und sich kopfüber in eine fremde Welt stürzt, das hätte ich nicht von ihr erwartet. Hier begann meine Unlust und alles, was ich seitdem in der ersten Hälfte des Buches gelesen habe, das habe ich nur mit halbem Herzen aufgenommen und es hat mich nicht begeistert. So habe ich entschlossen das Buch erst mal zur Seite zu legen und es später weiterzulesen. 
Und da lag es erst mal auf meinem Nachttisch. Als ich es dann nach langer Zeit wieder zur Hand genommen habe. Konnte es mich allerdings mehr fesseln. Ich verspürte wieder mehr Sympathie für Lily und auch für ihre Paralleluniversum-Schwester Juliet, Paralleluniversum-Tristan und natürlich auch für Rowan. Ich habe angefangen die Charaktere zu lieben, mich in ihre Welt einzufinden und diese zu verstehen. War das erst einmal getan, konnte ich mit mehr Begeisterung lesen und war plötzlich gefesselt von der Geschichte.
Denn Josephine Angelini schafft es jedes Mal, dem Leser etwas völlig neues aufzutischen. Hier nimmt sie das alte Thema Hexen und erschafft daraus etwas völlig neues, was seine ganz eigene Anziehung hat. Gekonnt wurden diese Fantasyelemente mit einer nicht ganz so leichten Liebesgeschichte verknüpft und natürlich dürfen auch eine Portion Bösewichte und Intrigen nicht fehlen. So wurde Everflame, wenn auch nach etwas längerer Zeit, zu einem Buch mit der Qualität, die ich von Josephine Angelini gewohnt bin und ich ärgere mich sehr, dass ich nicht früher so in die Geschichte eintauchen konnte. 
Obwohl man sehr schnell in die Parallelwelt hineingeworfen wird und auch schon zu Beginn eine Menge über Hexen erfährt, dauert es lange, bis man mehr ins Detail geht. Das größte Rätsel des Buches ist definitiv, wie Lily wieder zurück in ihre Welt kommt. Auch das bleibt bis zuletzt ein Rätsel und so lässt uns Everflame: Feuerprobe am Ende mit einer ganzen Menge Spannung zurück. Deshalb bin ich nun schon sehr gespannt auf Tränenpfad und hoffe, es bald lesen zu können. 
Bewertung: Auch wenn ich anfangs sehr enttäuscht von Everflame war, hat es Josephine Angelini nach und nach doch geschafft, mich von ihrer neuen Trilogie zu überzeugen. Sie schafft es mit ihrer völlig neuen Idee und einem interessanten Weltenentwurf den Leser ans Geschehen zu fesseln und ich bin schon sehr gespannt auf die Fortsetzung. Ich vergebe Everflame: Feuerprobe 3.5 von 5 Füchschen, die ich auf 4 Füchschen aufrunden werde.

The beginning sucks. It's totally cliche, the characters seem entirely one dimensional. Tristan is a total ass and Lily seems annoying and irresponsible. The beginning was rushed - I feel like the author wanted to just get it out of the way to get to the good stuff. But KEEP READING. Because the good stuff is really good. The end of this was tugging on my heart strings like nobody's business. I'm so glad I grabbed this off of the library shelf.

The entire concept of this book is fascinating. There are many different aspects of fantasy and science fiction being explored, and they're all thoroughly explained and understandable. The science vs. magic conflict, the parallel universes, the willstone magic, the genetic mutations - all of it made sense, somehow. 

I'm in love with Rowan. What a great character. He was the only one that never annoyed me. All of the characters had real motivations and desires but his felt the most real, and I just really enjoyed him. He was awesome. Tristan was as well. Rowan and Tristan were developed really well, but I wish we got to learn more about Caleb other than the fact that he was gay. And it ticked me off that his boyfriend was killed off only a few pages after he was introduced. 

The only part of this book that I wish were different is the character names. I wish the author hadn't used the same name for the Lillians and the Tristans and the Juliets because it could get confusing at times and I think the idea still would've gotten across even if the names were different.

If you like the Salem Witch trials or alternate universes, this book is for you. Seriously, just go read it. Ignore the cheesy dialogue and just enjoy the story. Its so unique and I absolutely loved it. I have a hard time finding witch books that can hold my attention, especially since I grew up near Salem. I can't wait to pick up the rest of the series. This definitely pulled me out of the slump that I was about to fall into.

I was looking for a book about good old witches for a long time, and this one rocked my world!
This is the story about Lily. At the beginning we see her as a normal girl who has a hard life, being allergic and having a bit crazy mom. She’s in love with her best friend who finally started to notice her in a romantic way. Soon she won’t be able to go to school because of her illness, and the only thing she dreams about is to go for a party with her boyfriend best friend, even though it’s dangerous for her health. But something goes wrong, and now she has her heart broken. That’s the moment when she thinks that she’s ready to leave it all; that she had enough. Beckoned by her inner voice (as she thought), she accidentally travels to another world. There she meets her evil doppelganger, becomes a member of the riot against the government, falls in love and becomes a strong woman. 

I loved the worldbuilding. Lily transports to the same Salem she was living in, but, at the same time, they couldn’t be more different. This new world is ruled by the most powerful witch, her Coven and by Council, which represents interest of usual citizens. They all wear special stones that help them to do magic. Witches also have mechanics – people who tend to them, their personal knights. There are also Outlenders – poor people who are forbidden to live in the city. They don’t get help from the government – no medical treatment, no food, no shelter. And when they tried to survive by themselves, without magic and with the help of science, it made them traitors. But why is Lillian – the main Witch of this Salem – so against science, that she’s ready to kill thousands of people to get rid of it? That’s the question.

All characters in this book are well-written. I loved Lily – brave, funny, stubborn. She often made me laugh. I imagined her like that:

I loved Rowan – her swoon-worthy love interest. He is a perfect book boyfriend. I’m sure you’ll love him! Secondary characters took a big part in this story, they were as important, as the main ones. But, most of all, I was interested in Lillian.


  I remember what I must do, even if it makes me the villain of my own story. Most importantly, I remember that the good of the many really does outweigh the good of the few. Even if one of those few is me.


I just loooove those villains who are happen to be not so villain. She wasn’t born evil, nor does she enjoy doing it. Her story is one of the most heartbreaking I’ve ever read about. She lost everything for a greater cause, or at least that’s what she thinks. I could see logic in her doing. 

All in all, this book has everything I needed: a well thought-out plot, detailed worldbuilding, lovable characters, swoony romance, hilarious jokes and lot’s of magic!

And now… keep calm and wait for the sequel.

good: as i already said, it's very satisfying on sensual level and really does make you reflect a lot on the notion of intimacy. minds and feeling interwined, sharing the most hurtful and precious memories, giving and getting. two main characters spend most of the book not only togtther but alone
with each other which lets this topic really uncover



not-s0-good: i give it 4 (3.5 if i could) stars because the author didn't manage to build anything apart the intimacy methaphor. the whole plot is rather weak, the secondary characters are kind of flat and you don't care for them much. even this science vs. witchcraft dichotomy could have been better. i know that not many books manage to do everything (though timeless did and throne of glass did) but that's the difference between 1st tier and 2nd tier (hope i'm using the word "tier" correctly)

Trial by Fire is an unique, descriptive, magical, intriguing and intelligent creation amongst young adult stories of witchcraft. It takes familiar themes, and worlds, tying them together neatly with fresh twists and turns all in the form of parallel universes and more. Trial by Fire certainly treats its readers to a fantastic trip through fiction and it deserves a world of hype.

And within the fantastic writing lay loveable and relatable characters, steamy plots, some dark humor and a little bit of romance. So I ask: how can you go wrong?

With Trial by Fire, you can’t. And it serves as an eye catching introduction to Josephine’s latest series that will be satisfying to readers of all ages. Especially if they love stories which revolve around witches and are interested in seeing a new take on Salem.

Prima di tutto vorrei capire, cari autori vi sembra giusto far finire i vostri libri così? Mi sento l'ansia addosso, quindi poteva essere una cagata di libro ma avrei comunque voluto il seguito (okay, sta cosa non ha senso xD).
Ma la buona notizia è che non è una cagata di libro! :D Mi è piaciuto molto e, considerando quanto ho odiato le 20 pagine che avevo letto di Starcrossed, proprio non me l'aspettavo.
Mi sono piaciuti tutti, soprattutto Rowan ma che lo dico a fare :3 ♥
Questo mondo è molto interessante, non vedo l'ora di avere tra le mani il seguito per scoprire come andrà a finire!!!!!
