Lovely but dark story about suicide and death. Gave me quite some thinking.

Karmen is a really disturbing comic in my opinion. I liked it and I can’t wait to read the second part. The art, starting with the cover, is absolutely gorgeous. The theme of this comic is quite dark, it talks about suicide and death, while also talking a bit about introspection and heartbreak. At first, I didn’t like Catalina, the main character, but it changed through the book as she also changed her perception of the world. Karmen is the second main character who is supposed to lead Catalina’s soul to her reincarnation but she is quite a special character and has her own personality. I really enjoyed that character and how she cares about people. The story is not all dark and contains some funny things which makes it easy to read. The main character is naked through the whole story which can be surprising at first but I didn’t really notice it anymore after a few pages. I don’t know if this had a deep meaning but I didn’t really mind it. I would recommend this comic for sure.

Je n’ai qu’un mot : Magnifique. Ce roman graphique est mon dernier livre lu en 2020 et je suis très heureuse de finir sur une histoire pareille. J’avais déjà lu Karmen V1 en anglais mais du coup ce n’était que la première partie. L’édition française par Dupuis ne divise pas l’histoire en deux ce qui est beaucoup plus agréable.

L’auteur aborde le thème du suicide et de la mort de façon général d’une manière facile à lire. C’est une sorte d’introspection pour le personnage principale. Ça m’a vraiment mis les larmes aux yeux et rien que d’y repenser, cela me rend émotive. Cataline, l’héroïne de l’histoire, revisite sa vie et apprend à finalement regarder les gens autour d’elle. L’épisode avec « Tony » est magnifique, un de mes préférés. Je ne veux spoiler personne donc je n’en dirai pas plus mais, vraiment, lisez ce livre. Je le recommande à 100%.

De plus, les dessins complète très bien l’histoire et sont très bien faits. Les couleurs, plutôt tournées vers le bleu et le rose, sont magnifiques
