I wish i could give it 10 stars Good dammnnn! I feel like reading the first 4 books is background for Anita but soooo worth it! It is vital to her character! Absolutely obsessed and reading the rest immediately!

This is the book I enjoyed the most so far in this re-read: the characters are more well-rounded, there is a bit less grandstanding and a bit more realness to everyone, including Anita. The plot is also much better, closer to a proper thriller, albeit admittedly with less suspense. I also like that Anita is facing her feelings and her challenges more, instead of just telling everyone to fuck off and just stashing everything deep down. (Thought she still does tell people to go fuck themselves a fair bit, but if she didn’t, it wouldn’t be Anita, would it? 😏) 3 1/2 STARS, with hopes for future books to deserve more!

Reread and buddy read This book in the series is more of a filler in my opinion than focusing on plot. This focused on the relationship between Anita and Richard/Jean-Claude while hinting of some big things that will be explored in the next few books.

Book 4 of the Anita Blake series. We see that Anita and Richard are learning to be in a relationship with one another and what that means for them both. Richard is in a fight to win succession of the werewolf pack that he is a part of. Yes, he's a werewolf. Anita gets brought in by Richard's opposed, him having wanted to meet her and demands her assistance with a case of eight missing shifters. In unrelated news, Richard asks Anita to marry him, way too early in their relationship in my opinion. And not so surprisingly, Anita begins to have her doubts as she discovers more of Richard's shifter side. She confronts Jean Claude about her engagement to Richard and he is less than happy, wanting his chance to woo her as well. The ending has a surprise double whammy when it comes to the various missing shifters.
