I never wanted this book to end!!!! This book was perfection if I do say so myself. The sadness portrayed in this book was beautifully written and had me tearing up at multiple times. Getting to see how not only Rafael’s and Ellie’s relationship developed but also how Rafael’s and his son Nico’s relationship developed was wonderful. Seeing Rafael’s growth as a father, a partner, a son, a cousin and his personal growth really made this book amazing. The nicknames they have for each other Mi estrella for Ellie and Prom King for Rafael were just perfection because of the meaning behind them. And my love for Nico just grew and grew throughout the book!!! Nico deserves all the happiness in the world. My heart physically ached for Ellie, Rafael and Nico at certain points throughout the book. They are just the perfect little family. The fact that despite his problems, Rafael strived to be the best for Elle (and Nico) warmed my heart. That’s true love right there. I have a Rafa, Ellie and Nico shaped hole in my heart now that I’ve finished it.

i just wish it was shorter but it was a good book… 

As usual Lauren Asher doesn’t miss. I will say my biggest worry was that this book would run too long because of its length because I had that issue with book 1. This wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. The end of the book was a little iffy but it was quickly resolved which I appreciate. But I also really loved this book too. The nanny/single dad trope has been okay for me but this has by far been my favorite one I have read yet. The characters were great and I love their individual stories as well as their love story too. I do think Nico was acting a little bit older than his age but that’s also me just really overthinking things a bit because I also love him and really feel for what he is going through, but that was kind of forgotten towards the end of the book and focused on something different. There was just a lot that happened and honestly I felt like I lived it literally because of how long it took me to read it. But overall I highly recommend anything by Lauren Asher and this one is no different and is right now in my Top 5 books by Lauren Asher.

Oh this book was everything. Although this book was more intense than her other books, it’s fantastic. Lauren Asher constantly touches on deeper problems/traumas people face and deal with emotionally and mentally, and she finds a way for them to heal but not completely and not through a time period. It’s so beautiful!

This book would be probably a 4.75/5 star if I wasn’t in a romance slump lately, it reminded me so much of Heartless by Elsie Silver (my fav of Chestnut Springs) but obviously with the difference in Lauren's writing style and some deeper themes like Nico's illness.

I wasn't expecting to cry, much less cry in the first 65 pages but here I am, the “You always make everyone leaves!” scene really caught me off guard and right then I knew I’d love this one. Unpopular opinion but I love books with kids, Nico surprised me bc despite being 8/9yo he said super deep things that always made me cry or laugh (I cried more than I laughed tbh)

One thing I hated was how Rafael kept saying horrible things to Ellie and then apologizing (the bare minimum) but he kept saying horrible things and repeating the cycle, just bc he doesn't know how to trust people doesn't mean he needed to say those things to her 🤡 anyway, later I learned to like him and their relationship but the beginning was tough.

What I loved the most: the setting (both Lake Wisteria and the trip to Hawaii), Nico, Ellie, the characters from the other books (Dahlia, Julian, the mention of Alana & Cal) and their relationship after 60%.

I wish I had read this book a few months ago so it would’ve been 5 stars but I loved it anyway 🌺🥹

this book was fine. it hooked me right away with ellie and rafael, but it wasn’t anything special, especially for how long it was. it was sweet but it wasn’t necessarily captivating for me!
