Love Warrior (Oprah's Book Club)

Love Warrior (Oprah's Book Club) A Memoir

#1 New York Times Bestseller The Newest Oprah's Bookclub 2016 Selection The highly anticipated new memoir by bestselling author Glennon Doyle Melton tells the story of her journey of self-discovery after the implosion of her marriage. Just when Glennon Doyle Melton was beginning to feel she had it all figured out—three happy children, a doting spouse, and a writing career so successful that her first book catapulted to the top of the New York Times bestseller list—her husband revealed his infidelity and she was forced to realize that nothing was as it seemed. A recovering alcoholic and bulimic, Glennon found that rock bottom was a familiar place. In the midst of crisis, she knew to hold on to what she discovered in recovery: that her deepest pain has always held within it an invitation to a richer life. Love Warrior is the story of one marriage, but it is also the story of the healing that is possible for any of us when we refuse to settle for good enough and begin to face pain and love head-on. This astonishing memoir reveals how our ideals of masculinity and femininity can make it impossible for a man and a woman to truly know one another - and it captures the beauty that unfolds when one couple commits to unlearning everything they've been taught so that they can finally, after thirteen years of marriage, commit to living true—true to themselves and to each other. Love Warrior is a gorgeous and inspiring account of how we are born to be warriors: strong, powerful, and brave; able to confront the pain and claim the love that exists for us all. This chronicle of a beautiful, brutal journey speaks to anyone who yearns for deeper, truer relationships and a more abundant, authentic life.

Wow. just Wow. This book was sooooo good. I've followed Glennon on social media and Momastery for a while now, and always love her message. It always seems to strike a chord within me somewhere. But to read this book, with her raw truth so beautifully laid out and shared, felt like I received a gift. When I read I like to jot down passages that speak to me, but it became clear to me that there were too many in here to jot down. Overall her message about being true, about choosing between being "perfect and admired, or real and loved", her message for young women about the lies that the world wants to tell them about being a woman, about being sexy, about pretty versus beautiful, about sending out our representative or our real self, all had me saying "This! This is Truth!" I'm so glad I read this.

I loved it so much. She is a great storyteller and her story is relevant to so many people in the world. I could identify patterns in my life based on what she said and I could relate to them even more. It's been an eye-opening read in relationships.

This book was recommended to me by my therapist, and it contributed to the formation and resolution of my original play, terms&CONDITIONS.

This is a book about a woman who lived in a nice home with two parents and a sister who all loved her, but who got caught up in what she thought she needed to be to fit in. She became bulimic and an alcoholic, then pregnant. She was saved by her belief that a painting of the Virgin Mary spoke to her and believed in her goodness. I would have stopped there, except I was reading it to discuss with a friend. I suppose this would be a very empowering book for a Christian. Fortunately, the author eventually finds most of the power she needs inside herself. She creates a new way (for her) of connecting to her body with her mind, and eventually is able to connect with her long-suffering husband. I wish them well.

Lots of good stuff in here, love some of her takes on the church. As a guy, it was educational to read some of her perspectives.
