Vielen lieben Dank an den Kyss Verlag für Bereitstellen des Rezensionsexemplars! Den ersten Teil der „Secret Book Club“ Trilogie habe ich sehr geliebt und das Buch wurde auch ein Jahreshighlight für mich. Dieses Buch über Liv und Mack hat mir zwar auch gut gefallen, jedoch war ich ein wenig enttäuscht von der Geschichte.

Diesen Teil konnte man auch förmlich inhalieren, genauso wie den ersten, daher war ich mit dem Buch relativ schnell durch. Der Schreibstil ist sehr angenehm und so humorvoll, dass ich das Lachen gar nicht zurückhalten konnte. Die Geschichte hat mich mehrmals zum Kichern gebracht und das liebe ich an das Buch sehr! Jedoch die ersten 100 Seiten haben mir nicht besonders gut gefallen. Ich fand es komplett unnötig, es ging überhaupt nicht um die Protagonisten und ihre Beziehung, sondern beschäftigte sich eher mit einem anderen Thema, was durchaus wichtig ist, ich aber nicht besonders spannend fand. 

Doch dann verliebte ich mich in Braden Fucking Mack. Oh Gott, er hat wirklich mein Kopf verdreht! Er ist der perfekte Bookboyfriend aller Zeiten! Ich liebte seinen Charakter, seine Hingabe, seine Bewunderung und Liebe für Liv und seine Freunde. Ich liebte aus seiner Sicht zu lesen und habe mich immer mehr in ihn verguckt. Ich habe mit ihm gelitten, mich kaputtgelacht und wollte ihn mit meiner Liebe überschütten, als er seine Gefühle offen zeigte und sogar geweint hat. Ich habe definitiv eine Schwäche für Männer, die offen weinen können.

Mit Liv wurde ich am Anfang gar nicht warm, ich mochte ihre Art nicht und sie hat mich teilweise sogar ein bisschen genervt. Das war leider auch schon in dem ersten Buch so. Doch dann lernte ich sie mehr und mehr kennen und am Ende mochte ich sie schon richtig gerne – vor allem, weil ich weiß, dass sie sich mit ihrer Art nur selbst schützen möchte. Sie und Mack passen perfekt zusammen und ich liebte das Ende ihrer Geschichte. Es war einfach passend, realistisch, romantisch und schön. 

Außerdem habe ich noch die Szenen, wo sich der Book Club getroffen hat, so geliebt. Meiner Meinung nach haben sie eine größere Rolle in diesem Teil bekommen und das haben sie definitiv verdient! 

Fazit: Etwas schwächer als der erste Teil der Reihe, hat mir aber trotzdem gefallen!

It’s a funny thing with these books of the series. My first instinct is to say that I didn’t like the book and that it’s really not that good, but then I think a bit more and suddenly there’s all these thoughts that keep swirling my brain and that are making me like a few things about the book still.

I do like that the characters are flawed and that it’s not just some minor thing that’s being made out to be so very difficult. 
I like Mack and the depth he’s given in this book where with the first one he just seemed to be the jokester and 'playboy'.

I can also quite relate to Liv and her reserve in dealing with men. She’s been burnt by the past and has never properly addressed it which makes it hard for others to try and help her by pointing out the obvious - to the people around and to the reader it’s obvious, not to her.
Yet, there is a line I draw where I feel like she’s been caricatured and over-dramatised (are those even words?). Maybe that was the author’s idea and maybe it’s just something I don’t like to read - I just found it to be overly dramatic and too try-hard to be relatable. At some points it read more like a young adult romance than a NA-novel.

Overall, similarly to the first book this one addresses and highlights a few problems in this world but also like the first one it felt too flat and 'try-hard'. I would have liked that these serious issues would have been handled with the same care and depth as Liv’s development.
I’ll never tire of saying: The world truly isn’t just black and white.

With this review it seems like I shouldn’t be giving the book 3.5 stars 😅 
It was a good book, I enjoyed to read it (mostly the last third) and there were a few scenes that made me chuckle. Still, I feel like this book showed me once again that I’m not the biggest fan of NA or YA stories.
