1) Book 1: Two Thousand Years ★★1/2 1.1) Novella 1: Reylor's Lament ★★★1/2 I received a copy of this book via the publisher, The Parliament House in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! In no way does this affect my rating or review. All included quotes have been taken from an ARC and may not match the finished publication. Content Warning: Explicit Adult Scenes, Abduction It’s funny how novellas work. Either they work completely in favor of the story or character they are about, or against them. Treyan’s Promise left me with a surprising reaction--I like Treyan a lot less than I thought. He acted more out of entitlement that he blamed Reylor for having. Yes, the Annals appointed him as the successor to the throne--and to Alex, for that matter. Since he is the eldest, it ushers in a form of arrogance that I found distasteful. It’s understandable to a degree. This position is what he has been preparing for his entire life. But when Reylor brings it to his attention that he also dreamed of Alex, before he ever did, and not of his own doing, Treyan persecutes Reylor. It remains a question as to how exactly Reylor dreamed of Alex before Treyan… I thought that his reaction was simply out of anger, or jealousy, seeing how he didn’t do anything to investigate anything further. From that point on, he and Reylor were at odds. The main issue I had with this novella was that it didn’t flow well. Scenes predating Two Thousand Years, to right before Mark of the Empress were placed together in a haphazard fashion. Also, the times when Treyan is working through how he will take Alex to the Empire are just absurd, He is still abducting her! While there isn’t really anything new revealed about Treyan’s story (except for his entitlement), it gives a better look into the events that led up to him and Alex’s meeting, as it isn’t explained much in Two Thousand Years. Vulgarity: Some. Sexual content: Quite a bit. Violence: Some. My Rating: ★★★ My Blog ¦ Bookstagram ¦ Twitter ¦ Pinterest ¦ Facebook
