A tale inspired by the fairy-tale relationship between Rapunzel and her mother finds a brokenhearted 13th-century former medical student claiming another woman's child as her own and isolating the growing girl in a tower to shelter her from the world only to have her overprotectiveness culminate in the girl's escape to the streets of Salerno, Italy.
