Such a short book i can't not recommend it. Some things are obvious, some advice is good with little practical suggestion, and some is just odd. But a few takeaways make it worth your hour to read.

Una corta lectura que pretende servirnos de guía para hacernos las preguntas que nos ayudarán a navegar en el nuevo entorno laboral —especialmente los trabajadores del conocimiento. Básicamente son preguntas sobre nuestros puntos fuertes, cómo rendimos mejor, cuáles son nuestros valores y cómo debemos contribuir a una empresa.

Las ideas principales del libro, en mi opinión, son:

- Debemos conocernos a nosotros mismos para saber dónde podemos aportar valor y evaluarnos rigurosamente mediante mecanismos —como el Decision Journal— que nos ayuden a evitar los sesgos cognitivos.
- Debemos conocer los puntos fuertes, las maneras de rendir y los valores de nuestros compañeros.
- Debemos conocer las empresas para las que trabajamos y saber si están alineadas con nuestros valores —para poder rendir adecuadamente.
- El libro pone énfasis en que debemos tener el foco en un área y no dedicar esfuerzo en otras, aunque se contradice en el capítulo final.

Por lo general, estoy de acuerdo con el libro —es difícil meter mucho la pata en tan pocas páginas—, pero creo que el autor tiene una opinión muy rígida sobre el crecimiento:

> “We all have a vast number of areas in which we have no talent or skill and little chance of becoming even mediocre. In those areas a person—and especially a knowledge worker—should not take on work, jobs, and assignments. One should waste as little effort as possible on improving areas of low competence. It takes far more energy and work to improve from incompetence to mediocrity than it takes to improve from first-rate performance to excellence. And yet most people—especially most teachers and most organizations—concentrate on making incompetent performers into mediocre ones. Energy, resources, and time should go instead to making a competent person into a star performer.”

A pesar de que puede ser cierto que cueste menos pasar de la competencia a la excelencia que de la incompetencia a la mediocridad, y por ende, lo sabio sería concentrarse en un único campo, creo que no está teniendo en cuenta el efecto compuesto que tiene tejer una red de conocimientos y modelos mentales sobre un amplio abanico de campos. Me parece que el mismo autor se contradice en el último capítulo al decir que es más que probable que en una segunda etapa de nuestra vida, queramos iniciar una nueva carrera. Para iniciar una nueva carrera, deberemos dedicar esfuerzo a mejorar en lo que no somos tan buenos —entiendo que la primera parte de nuestras vidas la dedicamos a aportar valor en un campo en el que hayamos alcanzado la maestría—, y según la primera parte del libro, esto es un esfuerzo fútil.

Un punto que me ha gustado es el de que debemos conocer totalmente los puntos fuertes, maneras de rendir y valores de nuestros compañeros. Creo que muy pocas empresas llevan esto a la práctica —Ray Dalio habla mucho sobre ello en su libro y Bridgewater lo pone en práctica con sus Baseball cards— y para mí resulta un concepto súper interesante que me gustaría probar algún día. 

En definitiva, al ser una lectura tan corta, igual merece la pena.
