This book was captivating. It examines the concept of generational trauma through the lens of a coming-of-age story of a uniquely unconventional 17-year-old called Pie. The story alternates between her sometimes-panicked present and her sometimes-surprising past. Pie is an introspective young lady and she is quickly learning who she is and what she wants from life. We all have times we'd like to disappear, but few of us would like to stay that way. Themes of family, loneliness, the transactional nature of friendship, kindness, fear, abuse, trauma, and the paranormal all emerge. But essentially, it's about Pie and her life. I zipped through this book so fast and when it was over I wished I had more time with Pie.

definitely my favourite read of 2022, only second to all my rage. soooo good so well written so beautifully done, i never related that deeply to a character in a book like i did with pie. and the feeling, so universal, this time written as a real phenomenon. i adored this book

When I first picked this up, I hoped invisible really just meant “invisible,” as in, no one truly sees Pie, even though they technically can. I’m not a fan of fantasy or supernatural novels, so I took a risk on this one. 
Turns out, Pie is actually invisible, and I’m so glad I kept reading. While her invisibility is obviously a large part of the plot, it’s much more a contemporary romance outside of that. And I LOVED it.

This cover might actually genuinely kill me. LOOK AT IT. Jeez Louise. Anyhow, this is definitely marketed as horror (see: the COVER,) and there are some tension-filled parts, but it’s more fabulist than it is horror. What did I just compare to “burn our bodies down” by Rory Power? I think it was “Queen of Junk Island”. Not to reveal that I only read like 12 books two years ago before I started this book blog, but I would ALSO like to compare this to “burn our bodies down”. Big on the mom trauma, or the mauma, if you will.

It’s a slow read and it’s full of aching loneliness and isolation. It’s a sadder, more sapphic readalike to “Things Not Seen” by Andrew Clements.

We’re gonna go for 3.5 stars, rounded up for NetGalley (and Goodreads).
