Once There Were Two
From archaeological excavations and artifacts, humans evolved very little, maintaining the same tools and skills for nearly 200,000 years. Then around 65,000 years ago, a variety of new technologies, such as projectile weapons, fish hooks, porcelain, and sewing needles, made an abrupt appearance. Bird-bone flutes appeared, indicating the arrival of music. Artistic creativity also flowered, as can be seen in cave paintings. Archaeologists have long debated what spurred this sudden burst of intelligence and creativity. “Once There Were Two” takes these facts and creates a story to explain why we as a species were infused with a higher level of intelligence almost overnight. Archaeologist Jonathan Brush, the preeminent expert in unusual artifacts, needs to decipher the information found in Rwanda. Jonathan and his team need to decide if the world is ready for the truth.
