Mark Manson has a very unique and direct writing style, without doubt. This lent itself well to my enjoyment of his book and the message he was trying to get across.

It's very easy to care too much about what others think and to build our lives around that exact notion. This book sets about trying to change your mindset; to make you realise that it's ok to be selfish and literally not give a f*ck about what others think.

In summary, a self-help book in the very truest meaning of the term.

A lot of people don't Like Mark Manson's writing but I actually enjoy it LOLOL
This book wasn't a very intriguing read for me (so I'm between rating it 2 stars content-wise versus 3 stars based on how enjoyable it was reading to this) as there were some areas where I just couldn't connect with (for example: SES privilege (not everyone has the luxury to be lost and travel/live off one's friends and family), his sexual encounters with women over the years sounding almost like conquests, the oversimplification of the human mind of why we care and act the way we do etc). 

I think I enjoyed his other book more but this one still touched on some topics/perspectives I wanted to hear more about. I think while I match the philosophy Mark Manson preaches, I am intrigued by a different perspective on certain topics that cause me to self-reflect. I did enjoy many things he talked about in this book. He did embody the idea of "not giving a fuck" very well. I recognize that I used to care A LOT more and was overall fairly unhappy (because I was worrying so much about why people would react a certain way etc). I am definitely a lot better and I'm learning to be more "eh whatever" & to recognize how small I am in the face of humanity. (once again, optimistic nihilism -- and i think Mark likes that ideal too especially as he touches on Buddhist ideals toward the end of the book) 

The things I did enjoy from this book are: 
- the topics tied to insecurity hindering us from our true potential 
- the way we care too much about failure or how others view us & how that directs the way we live life 
- the negative sides of comparison (especially in the age of social media)
