I was already familiar with the Shopsin's from the cookbook and the documentary, but I didn't know anything else other than the crotchety dad and his restaurant. Well, this book was a delightful and wonderful surprise. I liked pretty much everything about this memoir/journal/travel diary. Tamara's writing is charming and quick-witted and I'm totally won over by her story. It's funny because a few weeks ago I found myself checking out small towns in PA with Lithuanian populations (I know, kinda weird) and stumbled upon Scranton. It looked like a great place to live with cheap real estate (compared to Vancouver) and now I'm even more curious. Mumbai New York Scranton, I dig it. I'll recommend this book to friends.
