Nick Hornby continues to be a dialogue genius in State of the Union: A Marriage in Ten Parts. The story between Tom and Louise starts at a bar, after an affair and just before the first session of marriage counseling. Hornby takes us on a ten-week journey in this bar as Tom and Louise attempt to understand what went wrong and whether a marriage is worth saving. Even though we never join the couple in their counseling sessions the weekly bar catch-up provides more than enough to understand their process. 

I have been a fan of Hornby for years and this book was no disappointment. Although it's short, it took me much longer to read because I found myself constantly stopping to read whole pages out loud to my husband. Hornby is honestly a master of wit and the characters seem so real and relatable. 

Throughout the story I found myself rooting for Tom and Louise, hoping they are both able to find happiness, and wanting so much more. The story has excellent character development and even the side characters leave you wanting more in the best way. 

5/5 would suggest this book to anyone who enjoys Nick Hornby.

Reads a lot like a play which works for me. Short and easy to read, funny in parts and brought up interesting ideas.
