Nobrow keeps blowing me away with the books it puts out! Nightlights is a gorgeous, wonderful, creative book that is perfect for all readers. Sandy is a little girl in elementary who loves to draw. She imagines terrific creatures and worlds in her head, making them come alive in her dreams, and then she writes them all down so she never forgets. Her teachers don't quite approve of the fact that her head is always in the clouds, and she struggles to fit in. That is, until a new student appears, wanting to be Sandy's friend, and praising her art. Unfortunately for Sandy, this new friend is actually a wicked ghost after the strong power of her imagination. The ghost captures her, but Sandy uses some of her knowledge from math class to trick the ghost!

This is a simple story that could have used a wee bit more development (and parents might want to emphasise that school learning is just as important as creative pursuits), but it's got a lot of important lessons for kids to parse through. Also, the art is just stunning. You can look at this vibrant pages for hours given all their details and just the sheer creative force behind them. I will definitely be pushing this book into the hands of my friends who are parents!

Such beautiful illustrations. However, I felt the like there needed to be more to the storyline to make it feel more complete. Hopefully there will be another book. I felt like it was just a tiny little glimpse and I need more :)

Although the story itself left a little to be desired and I wish it had been explored more, the beyond stunning and utterly captivating artwork more than made up for it. This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful art styles I’ve come across in a graphic novel. I’m in absolute awe of Lorena Alvarez’s talent.
