Nijigahara Holograph
Reviews

Out of all the Asano books I have read, Nijigahara Holograph is easily my favourite. It's a bizarre dark tale that is told out of order. In fact, it's hard to tell which parts actually happened and which might be parallel universes. I enjoy reading complex pieces that play with time and reality. What I don't love is the focus on violence against women, not that I think Asano was trying to sexualise or glorify such a thing. I'm just really not into his way of addressing these topics, and his storytelling leaves me cold. I can definitely see why some people adore his work, but it's really just not for me.

I didn’t really understand what was happening in this one and didn’t like it enough to read it again. Maybe if I was more of a manga connoisseur I would have understood it but there was just too much going on that wasn’t explained at all. Just not my kind of book I guess...
