No Judgments A Novel
Reviews

** spoiler alert ** I found the climax, though, disappointing and out of character for Bree. She ends up firing a gun at a person after a lengthy refusal to carry the gun. To have her suddenly decide to fire it and to have her rationalize it as a necessary and satisfying thing to do doesn't match up with how she behaves up to that point. It also feeds into the mistaken notion that bullied people become bullies. http://pussreboots.com/blog/2023/comm... Privileged Rural Blue Highway 003333

This is one of those books that I am so grateful to have read, I wish I could reach out and thank Meg Cabot for writing it. I won’t spoil anything, but there are some very serious subjects brought up, and they are written in a way that made me feel understood. This is a book I know I will turn to again and again in the future when I need comfort. I can’t recommend it enough.

Love Meg's writing style, but as usual I hate the instalove, as with most contemporary romances. Dunno why I keep doing this to myself.

3 stars for No Judgements by Meg Cabot. It’s my first book by her, and while I can say I really enjoyed the story, I am not really a fan of her writing style. I found the dialogue a little cheesy and the main character was, at times, obnoxious to the point of being unlikable. I also feel as though the plot moved slowly for the first 2/3s of the book. This book is marketed as a cute contemporary romance in which a woman and her boss's hot nephew rescue and care for abandoned pets in the wake of a devastating hurricane. None of that actually happened until the last 1/3 of the book. The book could have focused more on that plot point instead of spending the first 25 chapters with everyone telling the main character to evacuate, and her alternating between being stubborn and asking herself why she didn't listen to them. Also, some of the interactions and scenarios were something approaching absurd. That being said, I really liked the setting of Little Bridge Island, a small island in the Florida Keys. The setting was set up nicely. Cabot created a cute and friendly little beach community that definitely left me dying for a tropical vacation.

First off, I'm a huge Meg Cabot fan so I had high expectations for this book. And it really did not disappoint. No Judgments is a great, but easy story to read and to listen. I simply loved everything about this book. I felt happy when listening to it even though the things in the book were not necessarily happy at all. Well, expect for people's kind hearts after hurricanes. The story itself is beautiful and I enjoyed every minute of it. I really like the characters in general, but Drew for me is special, probably because he is such a dream guy! The narrator also was really easy to listen to. Their speech was clear and sounded nice. The male voices were not my favourite but I could live through them. All in all, a really great book!

I did not enjoy reading this book one bit. Save your time and money and pick something else I beg of you.

I give it a solid 3.5

So this was a flick through read in the end. I just wasn't feeling this book at all. I kept trying and trying because Meg Cabot! But, ultimately, I just didn't care for the characters. I thought Drew was gonna be a cute grumpkins I warmed to as time went on and I was just indifferent to his whole character. And Bree? I almost liked her, but I felt like I'd met versions of her in other Cabot books as well. Just... yeah. This felt like I'd read it before. It wasn't anything like Cabot's other books, a new story etc, but it still felt like her other books but in a dated way. Does that make sense? Like I just... yeah. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't loving it either. Just remembered I should mention I did love the animals! Any book with animals is love so it wasn't all bad.

No Judgements will bring two strangers in the most unexpected way. And it's a cute romance story to read plus there is a little drama going on that makes the read a little more interesting. Bree is such a adorable person but there are times that she can be a little indecisive which can annoy people. She has been through a lot that she is a tough person. But it was a little annoying that she can be so indecisive about things. That back and forth is very tiring some. Just make a decision and stick with it. While we are dealing with Bree indecisive behavior, we have Drew. He may be dreamy but I wish we get to know more about him. His backstory was a little rush but we are greedy reader that we want more and more. No Judgments will explore two stranger stories as they deal with the heavy storm in their town. If you are into small-town romance, then this is the book for you. Three Stars

What girl hasn't felt the need to find herself at some point in life? I mean if I could I would run away to live on an island in a heartbeat. That is exactly was Bree does. While beginning to build her life she ends up smack in the middle of a major weather event and chooses not to leave. Even though she swears of boys as she is finding herself, Mother Nature has other plans and throws Drew right into her path. While I adored the premise of the book, I wanted a little more. I loved watching the relationship blossom, but the simi slow burn that is set up does not seem to reach as high of a climax as I would have liked. The end of the story wraps up nicely, but it almost is too neat. It felt like everything was put in a gift bag two seconds before being dropped off at the birthday party, complete but not in the most neat package. There was no cliffhanger so I am wondering what the next book in the series will be about. For such an intelligent girl, Bree seems to lack a lot of common sense. I understand being stubborn and sticking by for those you love, but at times she is down right reckless. Though I guess for some that might be part of her charm.

Sometimes you just need a cute and fast contemporary novel to pull you out of your reading slump or to follow up a hard-hitter novel and that’s what No Judgements was for me. I’m so glad my wish was granted and that I was offered access to an advanced copy of this book even though the publisher was no longer taking requests. It was everything I needed in an adult book by Meg Cabot to be and more. And I just found out there will be a Little Bridge series so I’m pretty excited!
