who doesn't love an accidental marriage trope done well?

Got issues ... I’m not sure what I was expecting with Bridget and Matt but this wasn’t it. While there is a hero, a heroine, and a HEA ... it was more like supporting characters. I wanted more love and happy moments with Bridget and Matt. Wanted to get wrapped up in their love and I want all the details not fade to black. The story was kind of weighted with her ex and his ex and all the family drama. It just missed the mark for me. The cover is a disservice ... it makes you think light and funny but this book while there are funny moments is not that. I really wanted to like this book but it was a miss. If you are a fan of Jasmine Guillory then this book is for you.

Exactly the romance novel I needed to get me back into traditional romance novels. I love a friends to lovers or enemies to lover or fake marriage scenario. My husband heard me describe the plot and said "oh, like The Proposal?" and I just sort of left it there. I would have read this book in one sitting if I had the time. It's not perfect, in fact the first time I picked this book I didn't finish it before I had to return it to the library. I gave this book another shot and I really enjoyed it. Perfect escape.

I thought this book would have the usual accidental marriage plot that I’ve read in other books, BUT this was a new take on one of my favorite tropes. Also, I love how the main characters, Bridget and Nolan, communicated way better than most love interests in romance books and that there is POC representation. *Thank you @edelwesis for my advanced copy.*

Library Journal Review l liked this romance, just not as much as I adored Not the Girl You Marry. While you can read this one as a standalone, I think readers would most enjoy having read the first book. Bridget Nolan has my whole heart however, and I know Matt Kido will work really hard to deserve her, I was just super frustrated she had any doubts about herself because she's awesome. I also want to throat punch her ex, he is the worst, and I'm sorry Bridget has to be around him ever. I can't believe he (view spoiler)[told all of Bridget's friends and family that she "murdered" their baby by having an abortion. What. The. Fuck. (hide spoiler)]. I'm proud of Bridget and how this was handled throughout the story. CW: drinking, parent problems, discussion of abortion

I was really excited to read this book because I love the "office romance" trope, but it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The story itself is cute, but I couldn't really get into the writing style. That being said, this has more to do with my preferences as a reader than anything else. In other words, I can be picky in my reading preferences but I want to acknowledge that simply because I didn't enjoy a specific book, it doesn't mean others will feel the same and that I won't recommend it. I think NOT THAT KIND OF GUY is a great starting point if you're looking to get into the romance genre but don't know where to start. It reads easily and balances many beloved romance tropes that I will never tire of reading. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the free book in exchange for an honest review!

This was such a delightful read and a marked improvement from the author’s previous book. Matt and Bridget were so sweet together, I love how their story started, where it went, and how it ended up. I was a little worried initially, as this story jumped right into it without really fleshing out the characters well (something I feel the previous book suffered from) and it felt as though it was going to go the insta-love direction. However, good things do come to those who wait, and the story ended up totally making up for the rushed first chapters and it was easy to root for these two to stick together. If you love fake dating/marriage, this is definitely one to check out!

Blog | Twitter | Instagram | Tik Tok | You can find my review here. As always, a copy of this book was provided by the authors in exchange for my honest review. This does not effect my opinion in any way. This was such a fun novel! I know that a lot of people didn't necessarily like Not the Girl You Marry, but I adored it and was really looking forward to getting my hands on Andie J. Christopher's latest. If you are looking for a boost during the age of social distancing: Not That Kind of Guy is a must-read. Much like Not the Girl You Marry, Not That Kind of Guy echoes some of the most beloved rom-com tropes of all times in a delightfully fresh and indulgent way. Although, if I had to pick between the two, Not the Girl You Marry is my favourite. And being able to see characters from Not the Girl You Marry was a definite plus. If you love the episode of Friends where Ross and Rachel get drunk and married in Las Vegas: you're going to love Not That Kind of Guy. Not That Kind of Guy has a variety of similar rom-com vibes all around! Reading Not That Kind of Guy feels exactly like that bubbling joy of entertainment we get whilst watching rom-coms, too. You can practically hear the upbeat score of music as you flip the pages. Ultimately, Not That Kind of Guy is heavy on the rom-com tropes, but it's what makes the story move along quickly and entertain its readers. Andie J. Christopher mixes all the nostalgia of our favourite classic rom-com tropes and turns them into something of her own making. It makes for an upbeat, breezy, grin-inducing read. While there was plenty of fiery moments via the chemistry between characters, and a lot of angst sprinkled in, this novel was all charm. Not That Kind of Guy had me chuckling just as often as it had me swooning and cringing. In short? It was entertaining and full of light. What a way to spend these quiet days!
