This book is so well written that I felt anxious for the main character. It's a deeply disturbing psychological thriller that made so unsure about who the killer was, and when I figured it out, I really didn't and was surprised by a twist and turn at the very ending. Camille is a deeply disturbed newspaper Chicago crime reporter that was sent to her hometown to cover the homicide of two young girls. Her relationship with Adora, her mother, is strained, toxic and unhealthy. There's also Amma, camille's younger sister. We quickly understand that there's a freak relationship between Adora and Amma and that the mother and daughter are closely linked to everyone in that small city. It's only after Camille's is in danger that she understands how twisted her mother is and that her younger sister appears to be in danger too. TW has detailed references to dead children, cutting and sexual and psychological abuse.
