Sad sad life. Even though Oscar was a great writer, he really was super unlucky that he was born back in the victorian era. Even though he really was something. Always trying and writing and focusing on getting the word out for what he thought was right and in the end dying all alone... that's just sad. He was even begging his friends for money at one point after he got out of jail. Awful life at awfully wrong times.

This is, by far, the best biography on Oscar Wilde. But bare in mind that Ellmann draws parallels between his work and life, so I would recommend reading Wilde’s complete works beforehand, or chronologically along with this book, which is what I did.
