Honestly this arc made no sense whatsoever, and that ending was particularly nonsensical. It was obviously just trying to finish the story line off as quickly as possible which meant it just kind of sped through a whole host of events that should have had a lot more development or time spent spent on them. Basically, like the rest of the Republic series, this arc was a hot damn mess and not at all worth the time.
