Book prospectus issued by Henry Evans at the Peregrine Press for the fine press book A modern herbal by Patricia Evans, containing descriptions of approximately forty herbs available fresh in the San Francisco Bay Area. Entries for each herb include an account of its history, cookery and lore, and a full-page linoleum block print by Rick Barton. The book will be printed on heavy Murasaki vellum paper, specially made by hand in Japan. A special casting of 14 Caslon Old Face is being made in England. Vellum from Ireland is being purchased for the backs, and Toyama Japanese paper will be used for the sides and box. The edition will be limited to 125 or 150 copies, depending on the number of orders received, but no more than 150 copies will be printed. Pre-publication price is $25 per copy, with no discounts. Projected publication date is 1961.
