This comic is an adaptation of the flashback parts of two of the novels in Stephen King's The Dark Tower series: The first novel, The Gunslinger, and the fourth novel, Wizard and Glass. We follow Roland Deschain of Gilead in two formative periods of his life; becoming a gunslinger, and falling in love for the first time. The art is gorgeous, but I don't feel like the art style worked too well for the story. It's hard to explain why I feel that way, but it has a very stylistic look, and each panel is like a painting where the characters pose for the artist. I dunno. It's a good comic though. Don't read it if you plan on reading the fourth book, Wizard and Glass. Do read it if you tried to read Wizard and Glass and couldn't get through the large and retrospective middle section, because then you can skip it.

I've read the entire Dark Tower series and was skeptical and puzzled how such an epic story encompassed in thousands of pages could be retold in another format. After reading this first graphic novel, I think it was a good experiment. Kudos to Stephen King for having the vision and will to try it. The illustrations are fitting for the story and very interesting to see after having my own mental image of everything. The other cool thing is that the story is told chronlogically, so the first novel tells the beginning of the Gunslinger and all of the Wastelands without ever introducing Jake. I'd recommend this to Dark Tower fans AFTER reading the books FIRST.

The art work is gorgeous! Spending more time with Roland and his katet is also a great pleasure.

Great adaptation of the Gunslinger Story, the graphics are absolutely amazing.
