Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Efraim's Daughter Longstocking (or Pippi to her friends) is one of my favorite children's fiction heroines. She was first introduced in Pippi Longstocking. She's stronger anyone, lives alone in a palatial home, has a horse and a monkey, and is the daughter of a pirate. Who could ask for more out of a main character? For the BookCrossing Literacy Train I treated myself to a reread of Pippi Longstocking before donating my copy to the cause. This initial volume introduces Pippi, her pets and her friends: Tommy and Annika. The chapters are not more than vignettes to put Pippi in comical situations but it is fun to see the mayhem that unfolds. Pippi isn't a bad child. She's just headstrong and used to being on her own. She's not part of proper society although she does try to be polite. She's not educated in the standard way but has seen the world before settling down albeit briefly at her home, Villa Villekulla.

Another of my all time favorite books. I first read it waayy back in grade school...probably around 1971 or so. It never gets boring.

Pippi is one of the most peculiar girls I have ever read about. A really fun read, I highly recommend it.

A classic from my early years, I decided to reread this book. I lived Pippi's quirkiness, and the way she can feel so confident as she does her own thing. It almost reminds me of how I act at school compared to my peers! While the story of the little girl was fun and unique, I found that it was a bit too simple for my taste. Although I can understand that it IS intended for much younger children. Had I read this a few years ago, maybe when I was 10, I would have enjoyed it much more.

Kids.

I'm sure if I read this book now I would not give it 5 stars - but I absolutely adored Pippi Longstocking as a child. Wore my hair in pig tails, wore mismatched socks, slept upside down. I have such fond memories of this book and Harriet the Spy.

What a genuinely wholesome and silly story! I watched the movie over and over as a child but never got to the book. I feel like I have finally found the perfect little chapter book to make my kids giggle that doesn't have the "dumb" speech! I can't wait to read more with my daughters.

....I am inhaling this....

LOVED IT SO MUCH

Love the illustrations!

When a book is your type, you just know it, from a few beginning pages (like when you know a favorite song just by the intro). And this book is exactly my type: not that kind of laugh-out-loud humour but very witty, quirky and unique.

One of my favorite books as a child. Pippi's world was part of my imaginative world. I even dressed like Pippi on April fools' day.
