Alice in the Country of Hearts is a multi-book manga series that gives the Alice in Wonderland story we know and love a nice big twist. Not quite as meek and submissive as the original Alice Liddell this Alice didn't fall down the rabbit hole when out of curiosity she followed the white rabbit, instead she was kidnapped by the white rabbit and taken to a Wonderland quite different to the one we know. 

Wonderland is divided into four lands overseen by Julius Monrey in the clock-tower (safe ground), Blood Dupre- a mafia boss from a family known as the Hatters, Heart Castle ruled by the Queen of Hearts and Gowland in the Amusement Park. The Hatters, Hearts and Gowland are all feuding about one thing or another and for the most part it is rather dangerous to make your way across the land in fear of treading upon the wrong side of the division. Because if someone catches you on their land the general rule is to shoot first, ask questions later.

This isn't so much a problem for Alice, as everyone seems rather taken with her, and for good reason. It appears that Wonderland is a manifestation of her deepest desires. From the start Alice is depicted as being extremely jealous of her sister Lorina and the elegance that seems to come to her so naturally. Within Wonderland Alice, who normally feels silly and slight alongside her sister, is the object of every one's attention and they all fall head over heels in love with her, something that begins to annoy her almost instantly when she realises that this is the reason the White Rabbit captured her.

Books two and three focus on a mystery that Alice is determined to unravel, investigating why everyone is so cavalier about death and exactly what it is that Julius does as the clockmaker in Wonderland. The first book was enjoyable but it is in these two books that the storyline and the characters really begin to be developed and it becomes more than just a bit of quirky Japanese manga. I was drawn to this series purely because I'm a big fan of Alice in Wonderland and I thought the covers were cute and I was quite surprised at the level of development in the story and the depth and complexity that the characters evolve into.

This first book is mostly spent exploring Wonderland and getting to meet all of the characters, most of whom are some form of hybrid human/animal, for instance the White Rabbit is a (handsome) man with rabbit ears and the Cheshire cat is a punish young man with cats ears and a tail.They're all rather charming and sweet (though there are the occasion standoff-ish types too) but almost to the point of absurdity. I couldn't help but feel like the whole thing was a bit of a mockery of that super attentive and almost stalkerish type of boyfriend that has been popping up a lot in YA thanks to Twilight.

I give this book a 3.5 stars I think it’s a cute story so far and I’m excited to see what happens in the rest of the books.

I give this book 4 stars I think that this volume had some pretty good surprises in it that I never saw coming. I also can’t believe the ending I can’t wait to see what happens in the next volume between alice and everyone in wonderland.

Alice in the Country of Hearts, Vol. 04

I think that this book deserves a 3.5 stars because of the fact that they started introducing new characters in the middle of the series. I understand that they are doing that so they can set the world up for next books based off of this story, but I would have liked it if they started off in the beginning of the book with the rest of the characters.

Alice in the Country of Hearts, Vol. 03

           I give this book 4 stars I can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series to see if all the characters have one big shoot out fight scene over Alice. I also feel like Alice will not leave the clock tower to go stay at blood’s mansion.

           I really hope that I can get the next volume from my library because that ending though I will honestly be so mad if I don’t find out what happens. Also, did anyone for see that blood and Vivaldi was brother and sister omg I was so shocked.

Alice in the Country of Hearts, Vol. 3

           That ending omg I can’t believe that blood was the one to go get Alice back from reality. I also am confused now because is Alice’s sister died since it looked like she was laying in a casket? 

I give this book 4 stars for the storyline i feel like I’m this one there was more art panels than there was words unlike the other single volume books which I really didn’t care for but it was overall a really good book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books following Alice in the country of hearts.

Yeah okay, this is not a fun manga.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR KIDNAPPING, SEXUAL ASSAULT, ABUSE

Sooo.

This started off okay, and rather interesting. First Alice Liddle is poked awake by her sister... who is reading Alice in Wonderland. She falls asleep... and is KIDNAPPED by the white rabbit, where she is forced to drink a potion that traps her in the world of Wonderland. All by a forceful kiss. Forced kisses are legit sexual assault.

I managed to read through the volume until I reached volume two, but I don't like this. The ending is terrifying, honestly. Hatter traps Alice against a wall, asking her to go to tea with him, and literally tells her, "I wasn't going to let you leave until you agreed." Alice is thinking how he's in love with her, literally excusing what he did, while Hatter assures the March Hare "Once I'm bored I'll kill her."

THESE ARE THE TYPE OF DUDES WHO ACT LIKE THIS. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AS A PERSON, THEY TREAT YOU AS A POSSESSION!!!

Didn't like it, it was twisted, not whimsical, so I'm done. Not continuing the series.
