Targets for Growth Hormone and Igf-I Action
Targets for Growth Hormone and Igf-I Action
The HypoCSS series aims to bring the latest basic and clinical advances in pituitary-related endocrinology to a broad audience. mechanisms of GH and IGF action with descriptions of whole body physiology and clinical applications. Special attention is drawn to lessons learnt from cellular, transgenic animal and human disease models to better understand the differences between GH and IGF action. In addition, the tissue effects of GH on specific targets in bone, muscle and fat cells are reviewed and a state-of-the-art clinical update on GH testing is followed by an exploration of how ghrelin might be used for evaluation of GH secretion. Possible new opportunities for GH use (in hip fracture) and the risk of abuse (in sport) are also discussed.
