Onyx Storm

After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him. Even if it means keeping a secret so big, it could destroy everything. They need an army. They need power. They need magic. And they need the one thing only Violet can find—the truth. But a storm is coming, and not everyone can survive its wrath.

Although this book took me months to read because I’ve honestly been in the worst reading slump of my life. This book did not get boring. And I had to reread the last few pages multiple times. I literally teared up because I am so mad. How can she leave me on this cliffhanger?!?!? You have got to be joking. I am at a loss for words… I really didn’t expect the story to go this way. I really enjoyed reading this, none of it I found predictable, and I can’t get enough of this series. I’m not sure how I’m going to cope waiting for the next book. I am seriously so mad the ending is going to be playing on my mind 24/7.

Start was slow, harder to get into than the other books. Took about 300 pages for me to get into the typical devouring fashion.

Will be interested to see how this plays out in the larger sense of the series once completed.

It took me until halfway through to get into this one, but the rest made it worth it. So much going on, but so much left to be resolved. The dragon bonds are the best part of this series and while I’m not excited about waiting for the next in the series, I’m excited to see what Yarros has planned.

WOW

This is the longest a book has ever taken me to read,I couldn’t remember anyone’s names, I just couldn’t get into it until about half way through and then….wow.

The second half really saved it!

The ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fourth wing series continues to be a favorite of mine and this most recent addition was definitely a great read. Pretty fast paced and super interesting world building considering the previous two books are pretty limited location wise. There were laughs and there were tears, the occasional gasp of shock and the satisfaction when a prediction turned out correct. I loved the progression of knowledge and felt like it was super true to violets character.

However, imo there were a surprising amount of plot holes. It gets to the point where leaving things out for mystery to reveal later starts to take away from the story. Characters sudden emergence with literally zero explanation and seemingly random revelation of powers. I know I am not the only one who has to go back and reread because I can’t keep track of all the new info that’s just casually mentioned and grazed over. I’d like to see a good, full explanation in the next book to make up for some of the confusion in this one. Then there is the repetition throughout the entire book of “no violet I’m bad now” “you’ll never be bad to me I love you” gain an inch lose a mile back and fourth. Exhausting.

Lastly, omg Rebecca could we just for once have a normal ending?

I am just not built for these books, unfortunately. There were some good moments of world building as well as interesting moments that pushed the narrative along.

The characters are just literally so insufferable to me.

But did yall know…Violet and Xaden broke an armoire when they were first years?

This book felt kind of rushed for it being over 500 pages. The beginning was difficult to follow with all of the small recalling of minute characters, and a bulk of the book felt like logistics of traveling to the various isles. The ending left me confused mostly (obviously a cliffhanger) but I’m not sure in a good way.

I didn’t like this one as much as the first two. I’m not sure if too much time went by between books, but I felt like I never really knew what was going on..

Another enjoyable instalment in the Empyrean series, with just the right balance of action and romance. Really looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book!

At this point I’m honestly so over Xaden (I know that’s a hot take). This ending I liked a lot more than the one in Iron Flame, and I think it’s a good setup for book 4.

Probably my least favorite so far. Lots of fluff. But the last 100 pages were impossible to stop. As always, great cliffhanger.

Took a while for me to get back into the series but I did really enjoy this book. As with most booktok books I did find some of the repeated sexual references and scenes a bit boring and unnecessary but this is personal preferance. Loved the twists at the end and I hope she expands on these in another book!

Long winded at the beginning, page turning towards the end. It took me forever to get into it and i enjoyed the other characters apart von Violet and Xaden much more since their relation ship seemed quite shallow in this book. It was a feel good read but not the best from the Emperyan series tension wise.

On page 175 why is there literally and absolutely nothing happening in this book.

Photo of khwaiish

tuIel hTOugn wer portion of my brai and he tilts my head, finding that perfect angle that makes me whimper mindlessly. "Violet," he groans against my mouth, and I fucking liquefy. I shrug out of my flight jacket and hear it hit the table, but losing the layer doesn't relieve the insistent heat threatening to burn me alive. Only Xaden can do that. His hand flexes on my hip, then strokes over the curve of my waist as he sucks on my botom lip, and I moan at the shiver of pure want that dances up my spine.

LIQUEFY IS WILD 😭😭😭😭 what is Rebecca onnnn

Photo of khwaiish

"Let me rephrase," Xaden says slowly. "Everyone get out now. And close the door" "Good luck, Violet," Ridoc calls back over his shoulder as Rhi pushes him out the door with the others, Maren and Cat carrying the twins, and in under a minute, I hear the distinct click of the door shutting. You can't seriously be angry with me," I start as Xaden surges off the wall, coming at me with the force of a hurricane. "You've never once begrudged my autonomy"he reaches over me, takes my hips in hịs hands, and yanks my ass to the edge of the table, turning me to face hinand I'm not going to tolerate you starting now. What are you doing?" He grasps the back of my neck and slams his mouth against mine.

Some of these descriptions are so wild and don’t make sense 😭 this is what I mean when I say the writing is so sub par

Being an ing arrested for treason doesn't exactly come as a shock, but Colonel Aetos delivering the accusation is a blow I didn't see coming. "Dad?" Dain stands. Aetos's head swivels toward Dain, and his mouth twists into a sneer. I have nO son." I gasp, and hurt flashes across Dain's face before he schools his features

Dain is lowkey my Dorian DONT even question me I see Dorian everywhere I got and everytime I close my eyes that’s my Shayla

Started reading this last night and oh my god the way this is written is not good 😭 idk if it’s because it’s in 1st person but being inside violets head is so weird I can’t get behind it. Still interested enough to continue and finish this but oh my god does the writing style feel a bit underdeveloped.

"Yours," he says like a promise, and my breath catches at the intensity in his eyes.

Gods, it feels like my chest is going to crack open when he looks at me like that.

"I love you so much it hurts." I slide my hands down the warm, bare skin of his chest, my fingertips ghosting the scar over his heart and down to the rigid lines of his stomach.

He draws a sharp breath through his teeth. "Good, because that's exactly how I love you, too."

“Sorry about that," Xaden says, his tone implying otherwise."I was blocking a potentially lethal blow to the first-year and seem to have knocked the wind right out of you.'" I arch an eyebrow and slowly look over my shoulder at him. "Seriously?" "He was going to touch you."The glacial rage in his eyes has mine widening. "Right, because that's the mature response."

“Eyes here,” Dain says, and Sloane looks his way. “Pull from the excess you feel in me, and push to the deficit in him. You’re not a weapon of destruction. You’re not venin. You’re the artery power chooses to flow through. You’re life.”

Her brow knits, and Dain flinches. “I’m going to hurt you.”
