Reflected In You

Reflected In You Crossfire #2

Sylvia Day2012
Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn't stay away. I didn't want to. He was my addiction... my every desire... mine. My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful... except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity. We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession...

Just when I thought the rollercoaster was over…. This book, and this series is like a rollercoaster that will definitely give you motion sickness and whiplash. Seriously though, I’m sitting here wondering what the big deal with Cross is. Don’t get me wrong, I get it…he is…pretty fantastic, but the whiplash…it’s UNREAL. Part of me feels torn with how I feel about this particular novel, what’s more is that there are three more books in the series… (Seriously Penguin…you couldn’t leave well enough alone and you had to push the author for a five book series -____- Sometimes I wonder if Sylvia Day would have made more money if she just stayed indie….maybe not). Don’t take the tone of my intro too seriously, I don’t think this was a bad book; I just think it had A LOT of things in it. Happily Ever After finally seems attainable to the new Gideon, Eva, power couple. They still have a lot of demons to face and a lot of monsters in their closet but there’s nothing they can’t work out together. This relationship is new to them and opening up is difficult for two people who’ve suffered from abusive lives. Each day brings a new challenge and each day brings them another step closer. However, the arrival of Gideon’s ex, Corrine is less to be desired. It’s in Eva’s nature to be jealous and she has every right. But when Gideon starts sneaking around, spending more time with Corrine she questions his motives. First he’s one way and then another and then she doesn’t know what to think. Gideon is hiding something that, in Eva’s eyes, could ultimately destroy them. Supertinynotevenreally Spoiler alert, which isn’t really a spoiler, more like a warning. Nothing will make sense until like the last few pages of the book. The reason I’m telling you this now is because my heart literally couldn’t take it. I had a different anger in this book than the anger I felt for Kiera in the Thoughtless series by S. C. Stephens. It wasn’t that I was angry at the moral choices the character made, I was just angry at Gideon’s actions in general. I would have been exactly where Eva was….torn, broken, unsure, lost. Being in that hole DEFINITELY sucks and I don’t know how she stayed in there as long as she had. Holy crap, I would have lost my ish a long time ago… “I’m obsessed with you, angel. Addicted to you. You’re everything I’ve ever wanted or needed, everything I’ve ever dreamed of. You’re everything. I live and breathe you. For you.” If I had a boyfriend and he pulled the stuff Gideon pulled….OH MAN I wouuld have like…had a fit, like a serious fit, probably because I can’t put up with stuff like that. Like all the secrecy, all the distance, and the whole ‘trust me’ bit? NOOOOOOOOO that ish does not fly! In the end it was worth it…but was it really, like to put someone through all that turmoil… Ultimately, YES, but at the same time…NOOOO!! IT’S A BIG NO NO! I get how communication wasn’t a thing in this book and I get the reason why but….no. Just. No. I don’t blame Eva’s actions at all for anything that happens in this novel or series. I find her rather refreshing to be completely honest, and it’s not entirely too often that I enjoy female leads. She is definitely a much better person than I could be, has a good head on her shoulders, and yes, has every right to react the way she did to every every, especially if someone like Gideon is her boyfriend. That boy/man whatever has like…major issues… I love him, and I think he’s fantastic and hawt and just gorg but…he’s got some…issues…. “Maybe there were people out there whose love could survive anything, but mine was fragile. It needed to be nurtured in order to thrive and grow.” The saving grace was the very end, I mean literally…the last few pages. I was almost sure we weren’t going to find out what Gideon was up to…and literally that was the only reason the book was tolerable. But I mean THE LAST FEW PAGES!?!? SERIOUSLY!?!?! Gideon Cross is a challenge, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a leap of faith with him ;) 4/5 Hearts of Love

This story just keeps getting better and better, every time I read it. Even though, this book is probably the darkest one in the series, it's still good and the plot is amazing. Also, as a psychology student, this story and all the problems Gideon and Eva has as a couple and also as individuals are very interesting to me. Totally in love with this series and all Sylvia Day's work.

Gideon and Eva, my poor sweet baby angels you consume me. I can't stop reading your story and I am going to be so sad when your story ends ... Once again Ms. Day has me on a roller coaster ride albeit a sexy smutty as hell roller coaster ride. Who knew dry humping could be so erotic? *church fan* I didn't know where this chapter in their story was going to take me; I simply wanted answers. I now have answers and still some questions but overall when it's all said and done I truly want Eva & Gideon to have their much deserved HEA.

3.5 I have mixed feelings about this book. The first half left me in a state of disbelief. Although Eva continues to insist she's in love with Gideon, their relationship remains focused on sex with no communication. Normal? No. Healthy? Definitely not. The second half was the redeeming factor in this book. Cary is the victim of a vicious attack which leaves him hospitalized. Gideon becomes more and more distant with no visible explanation...his ex-fiance, Corrine, is suddenly back in the picture. But why? Eva decides to break things off and Gideon's only response is "wait". Wait for what exactly? Then one night the detectives come. Nathan Barker is dead. Coincidence or not? And how does this tie everything together? The biggest revelation in this book is we finally find out what happened to Gideon when he was a child. This alone was worth trudging through the first half of the book for. The ending? Explosive. Overall, I enjoyed this book better than the first "Bared to You". The plot was better and had more substance. The relationship is still maddening, but I'm curious to see where it goes from here.

This is an addicting read, but not as good as the first one. Gideon was a bossy asshole and I didn't really enjoy the on-off relationship storyline.

For my full review of Reflected in You, head on over to my blog BOOKEDJ. Sylvia Day’s bestselling Crossfire series continues in the second installment, Reflected in You, picking up right where the first book left off. Where Bared to You explores the physical attraction and obsession our leading couple have with one another, this one explores the emotional aspects of it all and leaves us begging the questions: are these two meant for each other? Or not? And is it all too much? We know one thing right away: Eva and Gideon are as hot for one another as ever, so the sex is mind blowing and the chemistry reaches an all time high. These two are wild, pure passion and it’s so indulgent to read. If anything, if one is looking for a spark filled erotic story, Sylvia Day’s steamy series should be at the top of your list due to its delicious chapters and encounters. But beyond all of that, the novel itself promises to explore their dynamic on an even deeper level; toying with our emotions, bringing us the knowledge of past trauma (trigger warning: sexual abuse and such) as well as the reappearance of people from their past and an event that threatens to tear the two apart for good. We’ll see just how far one will go to keep the other safe. After all, if the one you loved was in danger – how far would you go?
