Super fun read that I couldn't put down! Even though the high school setting with an MC being bullied and has powers is an older trope, I still adore it! Michael was such a likeable character and I love all the characters he made friends with. The idea of a bunch of kids with electricity related abilities is really cool. The main villain is so well written. This is a long series and I don't have a lot of ideas where it's going to go so I'm excited to find out!

I gave this a high 4 star rating. Highly recommend!

The stakes keep getting higher and higher! This one had the most wild ride yet! I really enjoy the safe houses they go to but I always wonder, "What's going to happen to force them to leave?" This one definitely had that. There were plot twists and turns that happened that had me on the edge of my seat. I appreciated that we got more chapters with Michael and less with Hatch. I kind of hope that the bad electro kids will turn to the good side at some point. The added romance to this one was a pleasant surprise. The ending left on a cliff hanger and I'm really anxious to start the next one! I gave this a HIGH 4 star rating.

Another well done sequel! I liked meeting Tessa and reading about Michael's journey through the jungle to save his friends. Again, this book delivered with the found family trope. Their bond has grown strong and there were some hard hitting moments that really brought big emotions to the characters. I love that through thick and thin they are all so loyal to each other. Can I also say that I love Michael and Taylor being a power couple? If there was any criticism I could give it would be that I wasn't as invested in Hatch's chapters. I just wanted to get back to Michael and the gang. But the information in his chapters was still interesting and good to know. I look forward to the next book! I gave this a high 4 star rating.

Amazing sequel! I just first have to say I absolutely loved the friend group dynamic! I'm a sucker for good friend groups/found family and this one delivered! I liked learning a bit more about Hatch's mission and the traveling the characters did was pretty cool. The stakes were definitely raised in this one and that ending proved that there's a whole lot more the characters have to go through. I'm excited to pick up the next book!

Great conclusion to a long series! I liked seeing Ostin and Jack take the spotlight especially with them being the only kids without powers. I wasn't super invested in the other POVs though and I really missed Michael in this one. It's his story afterall and he wasn't present until the very end. Because of that it took me longer to get through this one than the others. But it did have a nice ending and I'm going to miss Michael and the crew. I still highly recommend this series!

The best word to describe this book is "stereotypical." I could predict almost the entire plot from the moment I started reading. A kid is bullied at school but has a secret power. The popular cheerleader takes pity on him because, surprise, she has a power too. Oh, he also has a geeky friend who doesn't have power but is intimately involved in the plot. The main character has to go on a rescue mission that ends up putting him exactly where he should have been running from. A whole bunch of the special kids rise against the establishment which is stereotypically evil and unredeemable. To be continued...

I was not impressed with this book at all and not motivated in the slightest to read the other books in the series. This is a classic example (in my opinion) of jumping on the bandwagon. I definitely don't recommend it.

Ok, I'm going to start off by saying that I didn't finish this book so I'm not going to say that whole thing is bad because I really don't know sure. For all I know the next book is amazing. I'm just not interested enough to find out.

I started reading this book because it sounded really intriguing. So, I started reading and I didn't really like it. I decided to keep going because the real story hasn't even started yet and there was always the possibility that it was just a weak beginning. That didn't go so well...

This book was very poorly written. It felt like it wanted to be Percy Jackson and it just wasn't. I might have been able to live with the fact that the story wasn't incredible and maybe even the writing but what really got to me was the characters. They were awful. They were all extremely cliche.

So first we have Michael Vey. Michael is the main character and also the narrator. He was no personality. He's a scrawny kid who gets bullied and has secret electrical powers. His only friend is a nerd who I'll get to later. The problem there is that it doesn't make sense that they're "best friends". They have nothing in common and don't seem to connect with each other the way real friends do. When you read a scene with two "best friends" you should be able to see that they're best friends without the narrator reminding you. I think it's fine to have characters who are really different be friends with each other but to do that I think it needs to be written better.

When Michael becomes friends with the pretty cheerleader Taylor it makes a little bit more sense. They both of electric powers so there's a connection. But then it gets weird when she starts including him with her other friends and he has no problem going to parties and eating lunch with them. It feels like they've always been friends. Some people are just like that. They can be friends with anyone. But Michael must not be like that because if that was the case he would have more friends. So, that's a little hard for me to believe.

Then there's Taylor the cheerleader. She's just a very irritating person. Other than the fact that she's pretty and popular and also has powers there is just nothing to say about her so I'll move on to the nerdy friend.

Ostin is Michael's only friend before Taylor comes along and I think he's there to be the comic relief. If I'm right about that then can I just say that he stinks at it? He's not funny. He's actually very disturbing. So, he's a nerd who also happens to be sort of a pig. He always comes to the Vey home to eat their food and then it gets worse. He's apparently obsessed with women and flirts with Michael's mom. Please tell me how that's not creepy! Again, I don't understand why these two are friends. I wouldn't want to be friends with someone who flirts with my mom. It's highly disturbing.

Speaking of Michael's mom, she's really just a copy of Percy Jackson's mom. She even got kidnapped by the bad guys. I just don't even know what to say to that.

So, basically, I feel like this book was painful to read and I just have up. It's like a really bad mix of Percy Jackson and Pendragon. I might like that if I didn't hate Pendragon so much... It really felt the Michael, Ostin, and Taylor were repeats of the Pendragon characters except that in Pendragon he was already popular. So, if you love Percy Jackson and Pendragon then these books are probably good for you.

Anyway, if you're a fan of these books then I'm sorry if this offended you. I really am. And I do want to say one more time that it's totally possible that these books get better as they go on but I just don't even care enough about it to see.

This book is very dear to me. 

Michael Vey is the series that got me into YA. 

I saw an interview with the author on TV right around the release of the second book and was immediately thrilled with the story. I quickly reserved The Prisoner of Cell 25 from the library and devoured it in two days. From then on I've been a Veyniac. 

This book holds a lot of nostalgia for me. 

It was really the first sci-fi book that I ever read and this may be the reason why I absolutely adore superheroes. 

This book is a page turner. ("One does not simply read one chapter.") While it does have a bit of a slow start, it quickly gets going, and has an edge-of-your-seat climax. (And the series just escalates from there.) The characters are great. They're funny, lovable, and smart. 

So yeah. You should totally read this book. It's most definitely one of my favorites.

The Prisoner of Cell 25 is a fast-paced, sci-fi mystery that reads like a middle grade story but with content aimed at young adults. Michael, Ostin, and Taylor, the three protagonists, grow and change dramatically throughout the story. Suspense is developed through the use of choices the kids must make as they try to do the right thing no matter how difficult that becomes. One of the best quotes that illustrates Michael's growth is when he says that his mother would rather die and watch him become a murderer. Heady stuff for an adolescent. Overall, The Prisoner of Cell 25 is a very good first entry in the Michael Vey series.

this book was intended for an audience a little younger than I thought it would be for, but still was a fun, fast read. Kind of reminded me of Percy Jackson, but I liked it a bit more.
