Read the book after I saw the movie.

I liked the book, not loved as most readers but liked it nonetheless. First half had a bit too much detail for me, I was interested in the relationship and love story more than some very detailed aspect of afterlife presented but there were some beautiful things described in this part anyway (the library, the music hall, and many more). Glad I stuck with it though, the second half was worth. I wanted to read this book for years now since I watched the movie (which was awesome by the way) I'm happy I finally got to do it.

** spoiler alert ** This book was depressing and crazy. From the very beginning it was about death. To sum the book up the main character dies in a car accident then gets stuck in sort of a purgatory. After he finally transcends he ends up going to heaven and finds out that his wife committed suicide (who wasn’t scheduled to die until she was 72 by the way) so he has to leave heaven aka summerland to travel to hell to find his wife and try and save her from hell. He ends up saving her only to find out when he awakens back in heaven that she opted to be reincarnated as a baby in India?! At this point It’s the end of the novel and I’m thinking wtf!!! So then the main character Chris decides he wants to leave heaven again to be reincarnated as well so that he may help his wife again in another life. Except he chooses to be born to parents who live in Philly so that he may become a Dr when he is older who travels to India and meets, cares for, and then ultimately remarries his wife in this new life so that they may go to heaven together after this reincarnated life. It’s crazy I know. And to Tamika...if you read this review I want to know who recommended this 1970’s crazy ass book to you because I know you didn’t find this on your own!
