safe to say that the PJ charm has officially worn off for me. 12 year old me would've loved this book to bits. rick's style of writing and humor just doesn't do it for me anymore. still love PJO/HoO with all my heart though<3

Good book! I don’t think it holds a candle to previous books but I was happy to return to Percy’s POV. Maybe a 4.5 because I got emotional during the old age scene, but who knows. Also, I think I got this book in October 2023, started reading this March, and finished it now so… whoops!

i started reading this last year and totally forgot about it... i think it's because (stops myself from throwing up)... i've outgrown my pjo phase TuT but lo and behold traffic and power interruptions made me pick it up again!! altho, it was cheesy and corny (and unnecessary!!), i still enjoyed it! i will always care for you percy! go get those recommendation letters!!

I have to say this book didnt really hit like the other ones - would give a 2-3 for me. I think its because the stakes seem so much lower than they were in the original set of books. Still a nice adventure and cool to see him and the crew growing up.

An ode to my first ever otp, Percabeth. 🥹 I felt like this was a huge undertaking for Rick, knowing full well his og loyal readers are now adults. But the feeling is still the same, and it makes me so happy. It was clever of him to provide brief descriptions about the characters, as if to refresh our memory on who they once were. I could never forget, though. It has been 9 years since the release of Blood of Olympus, 14 years since Percy’s last first-person narration in the Last Olympian, exactly 17 years since the Lightning Thief. 

The conflict isn’t as large-scale as the previous ones, so it’s quite a breeze to read through. Nevertheless, I am once again reminded of how precious Percy and Annabeth’s relationship is. 

I feel like there will be two more installments, and as always, I await them with eager anticipation. Reading this made me feel like I was 8 years old again, and it’s an experience I would never trade for anything.

Percy Jackson is absolutely, officially back in this new installment in the PJO series! If anything, this book felt like a warm hug on a bad day. Adventurous as always and it served some dam good content! Percy is as sarcastic as ever, and reading this made me realize how fast time flew by and I really did grow up with him. I’ve known him for over 10 years so being able to be a part of the new additions to the riordanverse is equally nostalgic and exhilirating. Chalice of the Gods is perfect for fans of percabeth (I’d never thought I’d see the day for so much percy and annabeth content) but I’ve seen them grow from being bestfriends at twelve to finally getting together at sixteen.

So beautifully nostalgic in the best way possible! Fantastic symbolism and a wonderfully simple and well rounded story. So, so funny and exactly what I was hoping it would be!

This...wouldn't normally have taken me a thousand years to read. I was attempting a buddy read with some busy pals, so don't read into (PUN INTENDED?) the long time frame!

From an enjoyability standpoint, this had a lot of five star moments. I settled on four because that's the "I really enjoyed it" rating, and that feels more accurate. Here's the thing - it wasn't perfect, it wasn't super deep, but it was exactly what I wanted it to be. It was Percy, Annabeth, and Grover at it again in NYC, nearly dying, working together, generally being marvelous. It had sweet moments that made me grin, and some that even made me tear up a little (if you didn't get a little mushy during Percy's "fight" with Garyon, are you okay?). Sally Jackson was given the credit she always deserved; Paul was the best as always. (view spoiler)

Were Percy and Annabeth a smidge OOC? Maybe a little. Were either of them OOC enough that they were unrecognizable? Definitely not. I think this might have been more due to the fact that it's been a few years since Rick has written Percy, and in the meantime he's been writing Percy for television - say what you will about the tv show, after having seen the first two episodes, the characters are definitely a little different than their book versions. It's possible Rick was influenced by the minute shifts in his characters' transition from page to screen (and by the actor's/actress's portrayal of them). The only part that really rubbed me the wrong way was Percy's reaction to Poseidon near the book's end. He's never been so negative towards his dad, even at the beginning when he found out he was demigod. Sure, there was some confusion about why he wasn't being claimed, but the tension in that moment was more because Percy had always had a very positive impression of his father (courtesy of Sally), and suddenly his dad was alive and maybe not stepping up the way Percy had expected. Percy and Poseidon always had a very amicable, loving, if a little distant relationship. And Poseidon has frequently showed up in person for Percy! To have Percy react so negatively and weirdly to Poseidon calling the school (despite it being a weird thing for him to do lol) was the most OOC he'd been, and it was the only moment I wasn't willing to write off.

I didn't take notes because I would have just been copying quotes down the whole time and it would've taken me even longer to read. I'll have to go back through and annotate, because there were some real gems in here. This is super different from any of the other PJO books - it's clearly a marketing thing, but I'm okay with that. It's like 95% goofs, and I had a fantastic time.

*"Something in that mass of cerebral seaweed must have clicked, or squished, or at least sloshed around a little." He's really taken his status as Seaweed Brain to heart

CUTE! Definitely feels like a love letter to the fans. The overall plot was cute, but I wish it was longer and a little more involved. Felt like this really could have been a standalone novella rather than the start of a whole new series. Excited to see where it goes & happy to see Percy again!

i didn't realize the writing is so light and such for kids, and i say it in a positive loving way. gives me childhood nostalgia.

this was everything i hoped it would be and more!!! i missed having a percy pov, he’s so silly and fun i honestly didn’t know just how much i missed reading things in his pov, having new content really made me realize it!
this took me back, really, i’ve been reading toa recently and wow is it just different to read ab the og trio going on adventures!! i couldn’t stop smiling throughout the whole thing !! i absolutely cannot wait for the next two books (and the series in december!!)
