Right Where I Left You

Julian Winters ā€” 2022
Kacen Callender meets Becky Albertalli in a deliciously geeky best friends-to lovers romance from award-winning author Julian Winters! School's out, senior year is over, and Isaac Martin is ready to kick off summer. His last before heading off to college in the fall where he won't have his best friend, Diego. Where--despite his social anxiety--he'll be left to make friends on his own. Knowing his time with Diego is limited, Isaac enacts a foolproof plan: snatch up a pair of badges for the epic comic convention, Legends Con, and attend his first ever Teen Pride. Just him and Diego. The way it should be. But when an unexpected run-in with Davi--Isaac's old crush--distracts him the day tickets go on sale, suddenly he's two badges short of a perfect summer. Even worse, now he's left making it up to Diego by hanging with him and his gamer buddies. Decidedly NOT part of the original plan. It's not all bad, though. Some of Diego's friends turn out to be pretty cool, and when things with Davi start heating up, Isaac is almost able to forget about his Legends Con blunder. Almost. Because then Diego finds out what really happened that day with Davi, and their friendship lands on thin ice. Isaac assumes he's upset about missing the convention, but could Diego have other reasons for avoiding Isaac?

** spoiler alert ** The bulk of this novel, though, is set in the time where best friends start to drift apart. Diego is a more social person than Isaac. He brings in a group of friends meaning that he and Isaac don't have the alone time like they used to. For the most part I enjoyed the novel. I liked Isaac's immediate family and could relate to the falling out he'd had with his absent father. I loved the relationship he had with his abuelo and their mutual love of The Princess Bride. Although Isaac wasn't thrilled with the expanded friend group, I loved the six and their separate personalities. http://pussreboots.com/blog/2022/comm...

If you are looking for a book that will have you smiling from ear to ear over the pure joy and happiness displayed in a book, this one is the on for you! This story follows Isaac as he finish completing his last year in high school and he wants to make this last summer with his best friend, Diego, epic. Isaac and Diego made a plan to attend Legends Con and their first ever Teen PRIDE. As Isaac is on his way to get the tickets for the comic convention, he runs into his old crush and gets distracted which results in him flushing all his perfect summer plans down the drain. With Isaac plans ruined, how will this summer turn out now? Listen!!!!! I haven't smiled this hard over a YA book in a minute! It made me remember how I felt over my first love and how wanted to spend every waking moment with them! All throughout the book I found myself rooting for their best friends to lovers romance and them being true to who they are and what they want out of life. And baby!! The representation, the culture, the joy, the pacing, the love. Just everything!!! Julian did an amazing job with this book! ***Received ARC for honest review***
