read this book the first time when it was newly published on wattpad and it still gave me the feels. lilly is my soulmate and don't get me started on rikkard ambrose. i’m a hoe for him.

I read this book on wattpad and I gotta say, the book was pretty good considering it was written on wattpad. Though it had it's cliches, the story was well written. I see lots of people complaining at how long the book was, but I didn't mind. To me, the book was more in the adventure genre than romance. Speaking of romance, the romance between Lilly and Rikkard was sweet and innocent which I liked because the story didn't stray away from the actual adventure.

I'm currently reading this book on Wattpad and love it! There is so much suspense and humor; I can't stop thinking about this novel, even when it's time for me to sleep (and occasionally, when I wake up)! 

I'm currently on Chapter 75, so yes, if you've heard - or read - about this book as lengthy, that is correct. I started this book 3 days ago and wish it wasn't so long! I honestly don't mind long books, as long as 
I have nothing to do which, sadly, I do ☹ 

Set in 19th Century England, Storm and Silence (S&S) focuses on 19 year old Lillian (Lilly) Linton, who is a fierce suffragist and believer of women's rights. During the Victorian Era, wealthy women (especially the rich) were expected to be housewives, attending and hosting parties, practicing needlework (aka embroidery), and raising their daughters to marry men richer than them through arranged marriages. The Linton's, however, aren't that wealthy. They're strictly middle class, lacking the multitude of servants and a mansion that signifies they're in the echelon of society, but that doesn't sway Lilly's Aunt Brank. She and her husband, Lilly's Uncle Bufford, raise the five daughters (six if you count Lilly) of her deceased in-laws (Bufford's sister and brother-in-law). So far, Bufford works all the time, so he hasn't made himself known, yet, and Aunt Brank is busy with her nieces. Even so, she doesn't really watch them, since Lilly can disappear for the night without anyone knowing, except for her caring sister Ella, who is the youngest of the Linton's. 

Lilly dreams of independence - independent from men and marriage while mastering her own finances. "Proper ladies" aren't supposed to earn money, but if she has to, her earnings are in the possession of her father (or male guardian). Once married, her money will be transferred to her husband, thus one of the many rules of chauvinism. To put her dreams into action, she dresses as a man to vote, until she nosily eavesdropped on a business transaction held outside the voting station. Here we meet Lord Rikkard Ambrose, who doesn't like that title and prefers to be called Mr. Ambrose. Impressed with Lilly's knowledge, he offers her a job, unaware of the fact
he communicated with a female dressed as a man. Only until her plan is foiled does he realize her true sex.

After that, this story becomes interesting as Lilly forces Mr. Ambrose to keep his word. A hardcore chauvinist, Ambrose doesn't want to employ Lilly, but after she questions his honor he relents, only under the circumstance she dress as a man. Lilly, now called Mr. Linton, is furious and vows to make Ambrose treat her as a woman with as much brains as a man.

Constantly bickering, Ambrose becomes frustrating, eventually showing his stubbornness. Meanwhile, neither wants to admit, but they slowly begin to fall in love. Because S&S is told from Lilly's point of view, Ambrose's feelings weren't expressed until Chapter 69, where things get a little *ahem* steamy after he and Lilly were caught in the midst of a gang fight. 

I haven't read Pride and Prejudice but I wonder if Robert Thier used that story as the basis for the Linton's and Ambrose (who makes me wonder if he is supposed to be modelled after Mr. Darcy). Ambrose, who is very secretive about his work, makes me think he is involved in illegal transactions. In Chapter 59 we find out his arch enemy is Lord Dagliesh, CEO of the East India Tea Company. Since there is a hint earlier that the Ambrose's were recovering from financial troubles, and that Mr. Ambrose is now the richest man of England, with Dagliesh second, stuff gets even more suspicious and exciting. Ambrose has trained men who work for him, not just in business but as soldiers, as we read during the fight in Chapter 65, even hinting that Dagliesh has the same, even though some may wonder how I came to that conclusion 😉 I predict Ambrose and Dagliesh will amp up their fight, not just over whatever business beef they have, but over Lilly, whom Dagliesh danced with during a ball! There are other stuff going on, such as Ella's love triangle and Patsy's man-hating feminism (which I can understand for this time period but it is completely contrary to REAL feminism), but it doesn't overtake Lilly and Ambrose's story 👍 Thier does an excellent job pulling readers into S&S with enough suspense and drama (although personally, I really don't care about Ella's love triangle and Patsy's man-hating, but then again, I can't really be angry with them) and I love the description of Ambrose! 

I just remembered, on silverpetticoatreview.com, Bailey Cavender, a blogger who interviewed Thier, described Ambrose as a "...cross between James Bond and Mr. Rochester" (for people who don't know, Mr. Rochester is Jane Eyre's love interest in the novel Jane Eyre), which I found amusing. 

Can't wait to finish this novel! I didn't know there were sequels, but I hope Ambrose and Lilly proclaim their love by the end of S&S!

Oh this book was so refreshing!! spectacularly original! I LOVED IT SO MUCH!! The humor in it is delightful! I loved all the characters!! I LOVE THEM SO BLOODY MUCH!!! 

Reasons why you should read this book :  

● It's set in the Victorien time (and who doesn't like that?)

●Lillian Linton  is a sarcastic, badass, smart, feminist woman who stands for her beliefs and who you would gladly sell your soul for, I mean she dresses up as a man just to go and vote but get a job instead (women working in 1870? Unheard of). 

●Ambrose Rikkard  is a workaholic chauvinist son of a bachelor who practically owns half of England and is the boss of Mr. Linton (aka Lillian) he hates wasting his money and time. Like really does. 
"Always remember : Knowledge is power is time is money."
"I thought it's 'Knowledge is power' and 'time is money'?"
" I combined the two to save time." 
How Ambrose of him.

●The relationship between the two of the is the best thing ever! Their dialogues are super entertaining like :
Lillian : "Sir, I've been thinking.."
Ambrose : "How unfortunate." 
Or 
Lillian : " You are son of a bachelor!"
Ambrose : "Show respect, Mr. Linton."
Lillian : "You are son of a bachelor, Sir!"

I remember reading this on wattpad a few years ago and lord is this book good. The writing style, descriptions and overall experience was amazing but be warned, it is a slow burn and burn it will 🔥

Storm and silence was one of my favorite books. I fell in love with the characters and the tension is *chefs kiss*. The story line and plot is creative and fun to read. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a slow and funny romance.

One of my favorite books out there. It voices about feminism and oppression in the 18th century. Also each book in the series goes on in an adventure which is so engaging to read. The protagonist is one of the funniest most wittiest characters I've ever read. Highly recommend reading if you're into historical fiction, romance with tons of rellebion and cuteness.

This book took me a month to finish. I started because it was on the best of 2016 list... it is so bad though. The main character is fucking annoying, obviously written by a man, and there isn't actually a romance. They kiss like twice, I kept waiting for some real action and there was nothing. Do not read.

I really liked this book, it made me laugh and I enjoyed myself. But the more I got to the ending I didn’t like it as much anymore. Like I thought there could have been more development. You get little bits and pieces that he likes her. But at the ending not a lot has changed. He still says she’s weak and that she is less then a man. Like he could give her a little bit more respect on that part. Because she has proven multiple  times that even though she is no man she can still keep up with them. And also the fact the Lilly is ashamed of her fat derrière as its put in the books. And in the chapters we see from Mister Ambrose point of view its also acknowledged that the young man he sees has a fat behind like why put extra attention on that detail. To me its shows that this book was obviously written by a man. And I also think that if this book had been written by a women it would have been much better. The prompt was so interesting and at the end it just left me a little disappointed and now im gonna have to read the other five books and hope that it gets better. Like i pray it will get better. Please dont disappoint me. 

Also at the end it annoyed me that she kept saying Sir! Yes Sir!

This book was excellent. It kept me wanting to read the whole time and it was extremely funny. I love the relationship between Lilly and Mr. Ambrose.

I did feel that it could have used substantially more editing though. Also, for someone that spends so much time trying to prove how intelligent she is, Lilly can be frustratingly slow on the uptake in many situations. 

Still definitely worth the read though!

You need to read this book. Honestly I have felt every emotion under the sun while reading this and it was written so flawlessly. You’ll hate the characters, you’ll love the characters, you’ll laugh with them, you’ll cry with them but you need to read it. I’m still not over the ending and I am about to delve into the sequel. It has everything you could possibly want in a book: strong female character, broody but mysterious male character, dancing yellow piggies, ships, arguments, speeches, fighting, balls, illicit affairs, madwomen, flower-obsessed men, wiggling small left finger, some flavorsome romance, and my personal fave - Karim. Just please read this book.

           It was a great book with a great storyline but for me it felt too full. There was too much and the characters were too predictable. 

Rikkard Ambrose was a cheap skate billionaire who falls for the girl but won't let on that he has because the girl is a girl dressed up as a boy and he would never hire a girl.

Lilly Linton... also known as Victor Linton or the Ifrit was a stubborn and extremely set in her ways feminist who would react just as you assume she would when her gender is used against her...

I read this because it was recommended to me by a friend but I can honestly say I could have gone my whole life happily having not read it.
