Really enjoyed this one as I have all the others in the series! I liked seeing the relationship development and I haven’t read a friends with benefits “let’s just get it out of our systems” in awhile.

I was excited to get the ARC for this book because I really loved Roni Lorne's last book.

Unfortunately this one kind of missed the mark for me. It was an okay read, but only okay. There were a lot of details that got dropped or overlooked or went missing. Details that nagged at me throughout the book. Like the sexual predator and his bar-owning buddy who never got a comeupance for their CRIMES, and never got mentioned again. A single paragraph about anonymous yelp reviews and blacklisting the guy on a dating app would have helped. As it was they were used as a plot device and then forgotten in a way that felt selfish and unrealistic for the characters created. 

In the third act break up, things were said, one thing in particular about the lead being orphaned, that real people would not be able to come back from. That a real person who has lost a parent wouldn't be able to come back from. The ending wrap up came to quickly and too easily for the amount of trauma that the male lead had to overcome. I usually hate a time jump, but in this case it was needed. We NEEDED a 6 month or a year jump into the future to find out that he had been working on his issues BEFORE things could get wrapped up right.

All in all, it was fine, and I'll read Roni Lorne's next book, but this one was a let down that missed its mark.

I enjoyed the first two books in this series, the second one, What If You & Me being my fave, but sadly I have to give this one 3 stars.

I think Roni Loren writes realistic characters, where they are coping with their own traumas, insecurities, etc and then meet someone who unexpectedly forces them to face those things to be better for themselves and the people they love. I really admire that approach here in this series specifically. The humour is also a nice balance to all the darker tones that are addressed here as well. 

For me, the main male character was exhibiting signs of such intense trauma that I couldn’t let myself enjoy the romance here. I did enjoy how things were wrapped up in this series and the ending definitely helped, but the journey to get to that point made me feel for Eliza. 

Overall I’m happy I read this series. I liked the awareness to issues addressed in eacg book. I appreciate the breaking of social expectations in relationships and the support system between the 3 main characters of this series. I am glad that they each got their time in the sun.
