Analysis of the changing ideas and functions of the British and Australian labour parties. Places Tony Blair's 'New Labour' in an historical context and challenges conventional assumptions about the future of the Blair government in Britain and the Labor Party in Australia. Topics discussed include the changing social bases of the two parties, ideological revision since the 1960s and various factions and their meanings.
