Business in Asia
This collection focuses on the role of entrepreneurship - both private and state - in propelling Asian economic growth in the five decades since the end of the Second World War. The volume places the familiar names of Asian business, such as Haier, Mitsubishi, Proton and Reliance, in a long term historical and policy context. At first, government policies created the conditions conducive to economic growth, but very rapidly the dynamism of local entrepreneurship took over and economic liberalisation emerged as the key policy instrument to unfetter local initiative: Maoist, Nehruvian and like policies have been superseded in Asia's rising giants. The 21st century is now being heralded as the 'Asian Century'. This book helps us to understand what has made this possible.
