kinda predictable but well written

This was so weird. I chose it because it was so short (needed to complete my Goodreads challenge) and because I know Ruth Ware is good. I was expecting something completely different. I expected a mystery of some sort, but this is my fault as I hadn't realised that the main topic of the short stories is deception. And it did deceive me for sure. I didn't really like the fact that the story opens with a setting unknown and it takes so long to figure out when and where this is set. I also just felt meh in general. I think this was just not my taste. *********Spoilers ahead********* Btw, still lolling at all the people reviewing this calling it too political, is it just because there is a sentence that goes "Fake news"? You realise that isn't trademarked? I didn't find anything political because it was literally all in the father's sick head. Where is the politics???

I really enjoyed this short story. I think it's pretty obvious what was happening from the start but the story still have me questioning. The way the story was written was really clever in that it felt so isolated and then at the end, jarring. At the end of the book I felt as unsettled as the characters.

Disappointing. And predictable, because what else could the "reveal" have even been?

This was a very clever short story, which had such mixed tones that I was struggling to decide what genre this book even was. It was creepy and totally believable, which scared me so much. Ruth Ware is such a hit or miss author for me and this was a hit and a half!
