WOW. THIS WAS SO FUCKED UP.

To be honest I didn't know if I should recommend this book to everyone because the story's so messed up.

This is Lang Leav's first novel but she started writing poems so you could see it along her writing. Some sentences are beautiful. This book is actually insightful, I learned some things and the PLOT TWIST THAT I NEVER SAW IT COMING. Kudos for that. But the ending disturbed me. I'm sorry but the thought felt like it got romanticized. 

This story was full tragedy. But if you're curious, give this book a try.

I struggled with the characters and the conversations they had.

Like always, Lang Leav speaks for my heart. Her words are whimsical, biting and shattering. They have the power to raise me and shatter me altogether. It's both scary and wonderful, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sad girls isn't your typical book. Everything that happens in this book is shocking in ways you can never expect it. It's no light read, I can tell you. But it's deep, and haunting, and this book will make you THINK. I still don't know how I feel about everything that happens, but I think that if after so many books I've read I can still be ultimately shocked... Well. That's a good book indeed.

Sad girls tells the story of Audrey, that made up a lie about one of her classmates. She told the lie in the intimacy of her room to her two best friends, and made them promise not to tell. But one of her sister's friend was listening at the door. And she told people. That told people. One week after, all the town knew. Two weeks later, the girl the rumor was about slit her wrists open and died.

This books tells us a lot about how one lie can ruin so many lives. I think it would be a little far fatched to say I enjoyed the romance, although I did. Quite so.

It's pretty obvious now why this book has this rating, but I am giving it 5 stars because I am sure this book will stay with me - if not all my life - then for a long while.

“You know, missing someone can sometimes be the best thing for a writer.”

You know when you finish a book by someone you truly admire and can't help but to feel a bit of confusion? It's almost like being let down by an unsatisfactory read. In a way, you know that something could have been so much more than the finished product. That's the best way I could describe Sad Girls by the incomparable Lang Leav. Leav is praised over for work amongst poetry and Sad Girls' prose is a definite confirmation of this. 

Which is an odd quality to have--I found myself adding a tab to quite a few points in Sad Girls but even the way the novel opens itself to readers couldn't save what felt like a definite miss. Lang Leav creates something special within words--the sort of way poetry is meant to reach out and touch our hearts. And while this is very much alive in quite a few moments of Sad Girls, it's not something that translated very well within a full-length novel.
