um… I LOVED this?! I’m borderline obsessed? I don’t know what took me so long to pick up the manga (I enjoyed the anime in the past) but I’m so glad I finally did. What fun! Sailor Moon is an emotional icon and I am HERE for it.

I am now, truly, a Sailor Moon STAN.

I completely forgot I was reading this and as soon as I remembered I was INVESTED.

This volume was insane. I was living for the drama. And the entire time I just kept telling myself “they’re supposed to be FOURTEEN?!?”

Either way, I’m obsessed. I love Sailor Moon and her fellow guardians; I loooove Tuxedo Mask and how silly and fun this series is. I am starting the next volume immediately.

Book Title: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Volume 7

Introduction: I have always loved Sailor Moon, so when my local bookstore got a majority of the Pretty Guardian manga series I had to pick it up and read it! This is a great throw back to my childhood!

Review:

Number seven in this series slows down a little in pace until the Sailor Moon power-up. While it is a slower volume, the artwork is still fantastic, and the manga is still cute, fun and fabulous! I definitely would not consider putting this series down even though the pace is slower.

This part of the arc is still a great continuation. The characters are still being built upon, the action is still interesting and the covers are absolutely gorgeous.

If anything, I am excited to see more of the characters be introduced in this series. I can't exactly find anything wrong to force me to put these down and start another manga. This author knows what the readers want, and that makes this manga so much better than expected.

This series focuses on friendships, magic, teamwork and family. While there are some darker elements to the story (such as Sailor Saturn's personality) it helps make the story not to light. It's a great series of opposite elements. The love and compassion in this story mixed with the evil and death make it a great story full of thought and problem solving.

Overall, I loved it. I can't wait to pick up the next in this series! The battling elements and steady paces make the readers gravitate towards this story continuously, and that makes it an excellent series of manga.

Sailor Moon is my ULTIMATE guilty pleasure. I live and breathe this series and will crawl on my knees begging for more content. Honestly, I've loved Sailor Moon since I was a little girl. I looked up to her, wanted to be pretty much any of the Sailor Guardians (they all have such cool outfits!) and wanted my own Tuxedo Mask. Also, Luna and Artemis! Who can forget about having their own little kitty sidekicks!!

As I was cleaning my house, I noticed I had bought #8 in this series and never actually read it. It ended up lost in a pile of books (honestly, not surprised). Lucky for me, I found it and totally needed a good manga in my life! So it was time to indulge!

One narrative arc in this series is closed, but another is just opening. Sailor Moon and the numerous Guardians (Mars, Jupiter, Mercury and Venus as well as Pluto, Uranus, Saturn and Neptune) are all battling the big meanies who might destroy the earth. Sailor Chibi Moon and Tuxedo Mask also help out, because obviously. The girls get their Neo Queen Serenity-esque outfits, there's lots of action and drama quick, and the final little section of this book starts the new narrative up (creepy clown like creatures are coming, beware folks!).

I am SO PUMPED for the last few volumes in this series. I honestly want to rebinge the entire series once I get my hands on the remaining few. I just can't get enough of these books and I would give them 10, 20, 30 stars if I could! These books are just too magical, too fun, and so whimsical. Naoko Takeuchi has crafted such a lovely little series! 

Highlights:
1. Fast paced, easy to read
2. Super cool outfits
3. Awesome pictures - colour and black & white, soft lines and designs at softer times in the story, harder lines during tougher times
4. Friendship, romance, and fun!

I 100% recommend this series. If you're a crazy fan girl like me, if you love fantastical romance, if you want some goofy, whimsical fun or just love manga - this book will knock your socks off. I'm totally biased, but hey - that's not a bad thing.

Five out of five stars! If not more! Gimme more Sailor Moon ASAP!

I watched all the anime (the original one, that is).

Anyhow. There was nothing worthwhile about this third volume. I found it to be very confusing and messy. I can't even begin to describe how the translation has been done - it's like it's been done by a child.

The anime handled the plot better as well. In my opinion, the original manga is too self-destructive. So far, Usagi has killed herself twice because she didn't want Mamoru to live without her. I'm not interested in that kind of life.

I think the anime's creators realized that romanticizing suicide for loved ones was unwise, so they changed it. Likewise, I love it this way.


That's just my opinion. Perhaps that's why I've never really liked Romeo and Juliet. The final battle was messy, with lots of drama, twists, and tears. There was nothing there. I find it too gimmicky.

The epic, world-shattering battle full of dramatic self-sacrifice, and then reincarnation, that ends the first story arc concludes, and then we immediately move on to the beginning of this new story.

Chibi-Usa's introduction is odd and half-stupid, and her setting herself up as a cuckoo in Usagi's home by hypnotizing Usagi's parents doesn't sit well with me. It's obvious to me who Chibi-Usa is, and there are plenty of clues that make it clear why she's drawn to Usagi and Mamoru, but still. Both as a character and as a plot device, she does not appeal to me. So it's just as well that the story quickly shifts the emphasis to the new enemy, the Black Moon Kingdom, which is kidnapping one by one the guardians.

Takeuchi's art improved in this volume, but I cannot say exactly how.

As for this series, I don't see myself continuing it.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon

           There is a slight improvement in the storyline from the previous volume, so this volume gets a star more than the previous volume. Sailor Moon: Pretty Guardian, Volume 2. The story becomes a little more detailed, and we get a sense of the plot as well. It’s much more enjoyable now!

Although I love the art style, something still bothers me. There is literally a ZERO development for the side characters outside of Chiba Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask, Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, and a glimpse of Queen Beryl’s past.

Usagi is the focus of this book, and the world obsesses so much about her it’s impossible to ignore her. If you are not an Usagi fan, you are most likely to be VERY disappointed. Is there any point to including them at all? I don’t get it.

There was Sailor Venus pretending to be a princess when she was not one. In the pre-canon Silver Millennium, Princess Serenity/Usagi killed herself after Prince Endymion is murdered. Usagi is sad and has no idea what to do. A cliffhanger ends this volume.

My memory recalls that Naoko Takeuchi wanted to kill the Sailor permanently, but her editors talked her out of it. Therefore, her motivations are much more tragic than her publishers’.

Nevertheless, I had a great time with this one, and I can’t wait to read the next volume.

Sailor Moon, Vol. 1

           Reading this brought back so many memories.

As a kid, watching Sailor Moon on TV, I was obsessed with Serena’s (Usagi) and Darien’s (Mamoru) relationship.

Unfortunately, the manga is a mess. There is poor character development, cluttered panels, and a lack of focus on the overall story.

In terms of pace, it is incredibly fast. The story took days, not weeks. Although it may seem unfair to compare the manga with the anime, this read disappointed me, since I am a huge Sailor Moon fan. The filler episodes improved the plot greatly. The villains got a chance of being evil and to discover who they are.

The anime was full of suspense and drama. In fact, there were a few battle scenes where I wasn’t sure about the Sailor Warriors’ victory, and they even lost some battles, like normal heroines do sometimes. The manga rushed through all of that quickly. Soon after, they were going to fight a new foe.

Based on the writer’s confirmation, the author ran out of ideas and threw random things into the story.

As I mentioned, Sailor Moon’s character development is lacking. Having hardly any character characteristics or emotions beyond the surface level prevented me from becoming invested in the characters. As for the romance, it was chaotic as well. The two love interests start out hating and despising each other. Their hatred for each other suddenly disappears when they kiss. In a previous life, they were lovers.

The blandness and flatness of every character annoys me? All the girls discuss friendship and love, but I’ve never seen them casually hang out and discuss feelings like normal people. Every time a character died, it did not bother me at all. My goal was to write this review and move on to my life as quickly as possible. There is one prop I give Sailor Moon, which is that it has so much open lesbian representation for a story written at the time it was written.

3 stars | I know I read this series as a kid, but I didn't fall in love with it then and so there isn't that nostalgia associated with this series for me. I always have a hard time with mangas because there are always so many problematic elements. What the eff is wrong with Tuxedo Mask kissing Sailor Moon (a 14 year-old CHILD) while she's asleep? Anyway. I might continue with the series just because. meh.

           Sailor Moon Eternal is amazing no question but this time even the climax was weak. I felt like it needlessly "rewrote" too much of what we already know and the Sleeping Beauty incorporation was horrible omfg. Like if Usagi really WAS meant to die before she got onto the throne... like why even introduce Chibiusa WHO IS HER DAUGHTER FROM THE 30TH CENTURY. All of this felt weak as a whole. The asteroid senshi was especially uninspired of a choice to me. Oh well it can only get worse from here, there's two volumes left.

Offers the continuing adventures of Serena and her friends, who use the power of the moon and the planets, as the superhero Sailor Moon and her comrades, to battle the forces of evil.

Vol. 9

some MUCH needed screentime for the other senshi puts this to the 4 star rating. ami's moment was visually stunning. minako, makoto and rei were super cool for plot reasons. once again the outside plot leaves me cold but the hanahaki subplot pls 💀

"Whenever I'm about to give up, I remember I too have a light shining inside of me." good god now I REALLY wish there were no villains in this arc. the conflict is so good without it!!

The end of the Infinity Arc was sooooo good god if Takeuchi will do one thing right it's the way she does climaxes. Meanwhile all the set ups to the arcs themselves are terrible just like this Dead Circus one BUT it's looking like a Mamoru arc so I'll take what I can get!!
