I love James Rollins and the SIGMA series is one of my favourite series (I've read 7? of the other books). Yet I had never read this first book, Sandstorm, aaand it was honestly probably the worst one I've read in the series. All the books are a little far-fetched, yet I find that they are rooted in scientific fact and provide plenty of action within the pages. But this book was a bit much for me... (view spoiler)[the magical parthenogenetic tribe??? Not to mention the melodrama between Omaha and Safia in the midst of the shitstorm at the end (hide spoiler)] Having said that, I did still enjoy reading it because I still love the mix of complex science, (relatively) obscure historical details and action/adventure all into one.

I enjoyed this book. The story was good and the action sections were well written. I liked the characters in this story and while they fit some of the stereotypes for there jobs or roles they were still good characters. The author does a good job of keeping the story moving forward and it reads pretty quick. So if your looking for something fun that is a quick read pick this up.

The beginning was really hard to get into, but the last few hundred pages were amazing!
