Born into privilege and wealth, Julia Ballard joins the suffrage movement to gain the vote for women. Society is against the suffragists, claiming the cause undermines social order and its proponents are most unladylike.Julia rebuffs George Russell, a member of parliament when he rescues her from an angry mob during a demonstration. Julia regrets her temper when she realizes George is sympathetic to her cause and he could bring their bill for women's suffrage before the Commons. George, a widower with two small children, fancies himself a slayer of dragons.
