Each Amanda Lovelace book I read it seems I see myself on it even more, so far this is the one that was most similar to me in many ways, she talks about topics that are very intimate to me so turned out to me my favorite. The poems are good for those who are beginners in poetry, maybe other people will not enjoy as much but i did! The reading is fluid and great to read in one sitting.

This poetry (without much of poetry, so it seems) collection was my Amanda Lovelace first poetry collection I read. I wanted to see what the excitement is all about and why everyone is recommending her poetry. I read it in one sitting and was left with a meh feeling. 

I understand the message, and it is a powerful one. A woman is a queen in every aspect of it, and a woman needs no man by her side to define that. A woman is capable; a woman is strong; one woman empowers other women. There is a strong premise about it, side by side with equality, rights, and love, and it's quite prominent.

Yet, with every page I turned, the feeling was slowly dissipating, vanishing into thin air. The words did not feel right, did not fall into the right places, leaving an incompetent and unfulfilling emptiness. There was no connection between the book and me; I felt more like just flipping the pages of an aimless and somewhat forced book. The book did not go deep into the topic, and it should have, as that would illustrate far deeper connections and emotions. 

On the other hand, I loved the illustrations; they resonated with me much more than any poem or short statement I read in this collection. The full-page graphics are beautiful more than words can describe.

I really like what Amanda Lovelace achieves with her poetry collections. She has cleverly combined well known fairy tales and their characters with messages of self-love and empowerment. There are so many important teachings in the pages that we all need reminding of from time to time. 

I thought the first section of this was very clever. Every young girl needs an influence in her life like the big sister to offer advice and perspective.

Of the two in this collection, this is my preferred book of poems. For me, the "big sister" narrative was really gentle and far more relatable than the "cinderella" story of the first. I think this particular collection would be fabulous for young women, and as always, Amanda has a beautiful way of phrasing her words that makes everything lovely.

I think this is my new favorite Amanda Lovelace book of poetry...maybe it's because I have sisters or maybe it was just the best she's written but this one really got me.

I found this to be a largely powerful collection of modern, feminist poems. The poems are simple but unapologetic, and I like the illustrations as well. They touch on somewhat heavy themes like depression and eating disorders, which helps provide some substance to the poems. I especially liked the premise of a big sister offering advice to the little sister, though I would have also liked to see the big sister learning from the little sister too.

Lovelace's books in the "You Are Your Own Fairy Tale" series have unfortunately continued to disappoint me. "Shine Your Icy Crown" is a collection of poetry and mantras boasting feminism, healing, and sibling bonds. The poems lack the emotional rawness that the "Things That H(a)unt" series did. While the prose is not over-flowery, it lacks depth and richness and instead seems like messages you would read off of a corporate run "girl power" Instagram page.

Now, I am normally a huge fan of Lovelace so I was disappointed as I continued my read through. The Women Are Some Kind of Magic series was phenomenal! 

Some things I was fond of were the "big sister says" bits as well as the lovely illustrations. 

Overall, I'd probably recommend this to young adults interested in feminist poetry as a starting point.

i have to admit, i didn’t come to this expecting much, and unfortunately the book didn’t exactly surpass my expectations. the writing was good, and some poems moved me more than others. there were many important messages included in the book, and i feel that, read by the right person at the right time, it could be extremely impactful. the illustrations in this book also complemented the poems nicely. however, personally, i tend to come to books of poetry with the desire to be challenged as a reader, and i don’t really feel that this book challenged me. it was easy to read, but occasionally this was to the point that i felt the writing was bland, and that by the end of the book i felt as though many of the poems seemed similar and merged together a bit in my memory. i wouldn’t, however, discourage anyone from reading this, as i do feel that despite the fact i didn’t love it myself, i am sure others might.

I have been keeping up to date with everything Amanda Lovelace puts out so I was so excited to get an arc of this. I especially loved the first part with the younger sibling saying what they feel and then the big sister responding. It really hit me in the heart as a younger sister and as someone who has dealt with anxiety and depression. And as someone who has been in toxic relationships, something about Amanda's writing has always connected with me. I think that this is one of her best poetry collections. The writing is stunning as well as the artwork. I would recommend this to anyone, but please look at the trigger warnings first.

I have weird relationship with Amanda Lovelace. I pick up everything she writes, I really enjoy all of her collections, but I can never give them more than 3 stars. It all makes sense in my head.

Still, this one was good! Less about trauma, more about healing, self-loving and self-support. Appreciated it a lot.

I really really love Amanda Lovelace's poetry collections. I think that again this is such a beautiful and poingant collection to follow and the fairy tale inspiration combined with her life experiences creates such a stark contrast. 

I will say the only reason I rated this collection a 4 rather than a 5 is because in the beginning there is a comment about the story following sisters and where there were exerts from the big sister to the little sister I was kind of lead to believe that this collection would be more about women's relationship with other women and it wasn't really like that. I still really loved it and lots of bits really resonated but for me it was a little misleading.

This was the perfect read to start off the new year. 2020 was a tough year for everyone and I was feeling down on myself and Amanda Lovelace made me feel powerful again. She brought back the spark in me that I needed to start this new year off with. 2021 is about self-care after 2020 being such a horrific year. Thank you, Amanda Lovelace for this perfect poetry collection that is not only relatable but also includes gorgeous graphics.

This poetry collection is about sisterhood and being able to marry yourself instead of a prince or princess. Ditch the fairy tales and jump into a world that is all about female empowerment.

It was a wave of emotions I can't even describe în words. I loved this book so freaking much.

The writing was excellent and I saw the evolution from the first book I read from her (The princess saves herself in this one) 'till this magnificent piece of art.

The message was more powerful than in the first volume of this series and I really loved the concept of fairytales and how it played.

I really love her writing style, her books and want to see more from this author because she is surprising me every time.

P. S. The art was from another universe. One word, stunning.

 Lovelace’s conclusion to the 'you are your own fairy tale’ series does not disappoint. I really loved the overall theme of this collection; self-love. Lovelace makes many references in her metaphors to princesses and fairytales in a modern and realistic way. She encourages you to be your own person, your own role model & love yourself. She uses the overall theme of self love to remind the reader that you are more than what people think of you/tell you to be. She encourages the reader to stand up for themselves and not lose their voice. This was a strong collection that I would recommend to anyone who has fallen in love with any of her books. This is a strong ending to this series and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
