WOW after closing this book I feel like I was dreaming. a haunting, beautiful, lucid one.

Knox's debut is astounding with stark original voice that is sure to make a big splash in the packed crime thriller genre. (though i must say, Sirens really falls in it's subgenre, new noir)

a bit of personal testament of how this book gets under your skin subconsciously. 

okay so I read sirens within two sleeps and I was a bit fucked up with the first half that I had really restless sleep the first night. I swear I thought that I saw shadows in my room and some of the things in the book keep on playing in my mind I was creeped out.
thankfully for the second half I was accustomed to it all and yeah I can sleep fairly ok. I can assure you that I don't frequently get weird like this.

this book is not the usual crop in this genre and all attributed to once again, Joseph Knox's impeccable writing and characters. they were all so beguiling and crushing at the same time. so real, so ugly and so utterly affecting. 
also, I read that he wrote this in a span of 10 years and well big congratulations to you sir it paid off really well and I think his background in working at bars clearly showed in how he deftly used them as one of the important settings in the book.

can't wait to read his next novel. 

PERFECT DEBUT. REMARKABLE STORY.

Southern Today Gone Tomorrow

Written by Joseph Knox, this story follows a Detective who has seen the worst of the worst and is neck deep in it. He does drugs, he is involved with the wrong people, he has disappeared, and he honestly just wants to do the right thing.

If you enjoy detective novels, the dark and gritty kind, you will enjoy this book. This looks at aspects of the darkness which many of us never have to deal with. And, personally, I would like to keep it that way.

It is also a murder mystery and suspense novel.

There is a lot going on. 

It definitely helps that this book is not only well written but well thought out. This book plays with the knowledge it gives you expertly to keep you guessing and make it clear that the characters know far more than you do and turns the story into a true mystery for the reader.

However, this wasn't my cup of tea. Well written and an interesting story, I just wasn't feeling a dark story when I was reading this, and this is a dark novel from the get go.
